Dell UltraSharp 1908WFP 19-Inch Wide-Screen LCD Monitor Review

- For a small monitor, the UltraSharp 1908WFP offers a lot of physical flexibility. While many rival 19-inch wide-screen LCDs and some larger models are content to offer merely tilt, Dell goes the extra mile to provide a particularly easy-to-maneuver height adjustment, swivel, and pivot.

Duration of ownership:

Strengths: wide screen; portrait mode

Weaknesses: the VGA cable was screwed in so tight, it required pliers to remove

Overall Evaluation: My replacement monitor for an HP model that failed after only 2 yrs of use. While I haven't owned this one long enough to speak for durability I'm happy with the upgrade given the following features:- good construction, high grade plastics vs cheapo built of other Dell non-ultasharp models- high contast ratio, a DVI cable is included to make the most of it- adjustable stand/viewing, including portrait mode (pivot software is not included)... because it's a wide-screen, it'll actually take up last desktop space in this orientation than a standard 17-inch monitor.

Overall Evaluation: I recently purchased 2 of these monitors for my new desktop. I have had a laptop for the last several years and have never owned a LCD monitor (last desktop I had was back in the day of CRTs). I received the packages in 3 business days with free shipping from Dell; the monitor was very easy to unpack and install. Clear directions are provided in and on the packaging for every step of the process for those who need it. The monitors have a small footprint and very attractive styling; they would look great in any room. One of the features I like most on these monitors are the adjustable stands: tilt, swivel, height, and pivot are all easily accomplished (the pivot function is wonderful- having one screen landscape and one portrait is very useful). In addition, the monitors have DVI connectors and a built-in USB hub. The only drawbacks I have found are the missing speakers (not-included but Dell does offer a small speaker to clasp onto the bottom of the monitor- thats extra of course) and the price is a little high if you are a bargain shopper (since purchasing these monitors I have seen a few 19"-20" discounted for less). All considered though, the picture quality is great and I would recommend these monitors to anyone!
