What You Should Know about the X6570

Duplex Printing a Must for Busy Offices

A printer with duplex capability contains an internal mechanism for turning the paper over to print on the other side. (This is not to be confused with the manual duplexing that some printers offer, where driver software walks you through the process of turning over the paper yourself.) Any high-volume office should seriously consider this feature. The duplexing process slows down your print job a bit, but it also immediately cuts your paper use in half -- good for your budget, good for the environment.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Fast Prints and Copies.Scan to a wide range of applications on any connected computer.All-In-One with document feeder.

Weaknesses: Printing from Mac OS 10.4 is sluggish.Occasionally print jobs from the Mac get stuck in the print queue.

Overall Evaluation: I mainly purchased this printer to replace a wired HP Officejet. My wife was give a MAC, and I was unable to get it to connect to the shared OfficeJet on my PC. This All-In-One was advertised as both MAC and PC compatible. The included instruction manual was not very clear on the wireless portion of the printer setup, but the setup wizard on CD made short work of that. My biggest complaint is that printing from the MAC is slow and sluggish. I am not certain that it is the printer which is at fault, but I do know that all other wireless connections from the MAC are fast. Occasionally print jobs sent from the MAC get stuck in the print queue. It takes 10 minutes or more to delete the job from the queue (whether from the MAC or PC), and you cannot print until the job is cleared from the queue. Based on both the above problems, I would venture to say that there is a problem with the print driver for the MAC. It appears that the driver has difficulty creating the print jobs and that is why it is slow and the print jobs are corrupted at times. All in all this printer does what it is advertised to do, and at a great price. It is probably the best out there for the money I paid. If it was not for my two complaints, I would have given it 5 stars.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: impressive features for low price

Weaknesses: many features such as, duplex, works arbitrarily. Scan feature does not work at all on a wireless connection.

Overall Evaluation: If you are a MAC user, do not buy this printer. lexmark has emailed me back to tell me MAC users can not use their "productivity studio" feature and no plans to change. Have to use generic driver to use with MAC at all. Very difficult to set up wirelessly with MAC. Prints well. Seems to go through ink cartridges quickly though (never use for photos).
