Strengths: - This set comes with attractive glossy black frame- PQ in HD channels is out of this world- TV provides deep black shades w/ vibrant colors- Good burn-in protection features

Weaknesses: - Set is on the heavier side- Buzzing sound, less after use- Dissipates heat from the top- PQ in SD is avg.- SQ is avg. use with HTS

Overall Evaluation: I bought my Samsung FPT5084 set right before the Super Bowl and let me tell you it did not disappoint. Yes I?m writing this review 3 months later, but I wanted to test out features and provide a comprehensive review.I want to say that this is by far one of my most cherished products I own and I highly recommend it. If you buy this set you will not be disappointed!!! I had done plenty of research as many of you are doing and will do because let?s face it this is an important purchase. Time and time again I found great reviews; after all it was rated as one of the best HD Plasma sets of 2007. After using this set I understand why so many people have good things to say. There are so many positives and very few cons and I?m glad I joined the club. To add to the charm, this set comes with on site 2 year parts and labor manufacturer?s warranty. One can also extend this warranty by 1 year if they use their credit card for the purchase (e.g. AMEX). At the moment the price is very reasonable, so take the plunge and you won?t regret it. People, if you want a great 50" 1080p Plasma set, then THIS IS YOUR SET. You can certainly thank me later after experiencing this true work of art.P.S. Strengths: Incredible Picture - Flexible picture adjustment options.Piano black cabinet is First Class.Flexibility and number of connections make this Plasma virtually future proof.

Weaknesses: None - no runs, no drips, no errors.

Overall Evaluation: I've looked and researched to the point my wife never thought we'd buy a TV! Let's face it, the technology landscape changes almost by the minute. In fact, the model number on this set changed with the new year! I compared side by side at the big box stores, it seems like I've read every tech article, product review, and spec document. This set is a "sleeper" in the 50inch 1080p plasma market. HD Cable and DVD source material appears nearly 3-D! The color and black level is as good as sets priced 2 or 3 times as much. Bottom line: from picture quality to the number and variety of hi-def connectivity to the way it looks on the wall- there's no contest - the Samsung FP-T5084 is the better quality and better value!

Strengths: Captivating picture quality. Lifelike with that "almost can walk into it" quality. Swivel stand is a nice feature. No hum or excessive heat from mine.

Weaknesses: I was initially concerned about a rather warm area at the top rear of the set; this has dissipated with 3 months use...hardly noticeabble now.

Overall Evaluation: Isearched and researched on innumerable websites and local stores before buying this set; originally had intended to buy a Hitachi LCD, but the salesman showed me this plasma, and I was amazed at the, to me, better picture...particularly the black levels, on this plasma. I have two Samsung computer monitors, and have been well pleased with them; this flat panel TV is a purchase with which I am very happy...I'd definitely recommend it!

Strengths: -impeccable picture-great connectivity options-good menu controls-comfortable remote control

Weaknesses: -slight buzzing sound from the power supply-blacks don't compare to pioneer, but only slightly-very basic PIP

Overall Evaluation: For me, the choice was between this T5084 and the Panasonic 50pz700. It is obvious to me now that I made the right choice. The Panasonics were a little bit more expensive, but they lacked a USB port, they did not have as many connections in the back (i needed 2 HDMI ports plus i wanted 1 port free).Unfortunately, the first set that I received had a major problem. the top half of the screen would not work, as if those pixels were not getting any electricity. A call to a Samsung technician revealed that most likely one of the buffer boards was loose in its socket, and that they would most certainly fix it. i didn't want to take any chances and exchanged the tv set (Vanns.com was very accomodating. A+).The second set arrived and worked perfectly out of the box. I could not be happier with the picture. about a week in however, a slight buzz started coming from the back. it's not noticeable if you have any sound coming from the tv speakers. we use a stereo receiver to pipe sound to surround speakers, and when those go mute or the movie has a silent scene, the noise is there. Once again Samsung was very understanding, brought a tech in and assured us that the noise is normal (this is a bit disappointing). apparently, the capacitors in the power supply happen to vibrate slightly under voltage. if they happen to hit the boards or the case, a noise is noticable. from what i understand, this happens in 10-20% of sets, and does not bother most people. once the warranty is through, this can be fixed by opening the back and shimming the capacitors with some silicon putty.

Strengths: The strengths are definitely picture quality: The black levels and color gradients are breathtaking. Other strengths include flexibility of input connections, NTSC and ATCS tuners with clear QAM.

Weaknesses: Audio pass through does not include Dolby Digital 5.1 only PCM, so no looping back to a limited input receiver. Distracting buzzing at low volume.

Overall Evaluation: The T0584 has a impressive picture quality, great movement response and flexible and numerous input connection options. The anti-glare coating works well without sacrificing aesthetics. Cons include plasma buzzing, no support for external USB hard drives and only a few digital cameras (only USB thumb drives are supported - still a very nice feature though). Overall I would definitely recommend this TV.
