The Lexmark X9575 Professional is a color inkjet multifunction printer packed with business-centric features--including integrated Wi-Fi. However, while it outshines other models in the same price range (including the near-identical Dell 968w), its costly inks and design flaws might frustrate busier offices.

Lexmark X9575 Professional Inkjet Multifunction Printer
X9575 Professional Review, by Melissa Riofrio June 4, 2008
The X9575 Professional performed reasonably well in our tests, posting an above-average rate of 9.9 pages per minute (ppm) in printing text and a below-average rate of 2 ppm in printing color graphics. Text samples looked a little fuzzy but nicely black. Color images appeared somewhat grainy on plain paper but melted into smoothness on Lexmark's own photo paper. Scan quality was good, though a little dark; copies looked a bit thicker and fuzzier, but were still very good.
Better aspects of the design include a control panel with clearly labeled buttons and a 2.4-inch, tiltable color LCD with understandable menu lines and messages. Other thoughtful touches include side handles to make the MFP easier to lift, and an obvious handhold on the front for lifting the scanner unit to access the ink cartridges. Even the wireless installation is easy, thanks to thorough documentation and a highly automated procedure.
A printer at heart, the X9575 Professional should handle paper better than anything else--but it doesn't. The standard automatic duplexer (for two-sided printing) and 50-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF) are great. The 150-sheet input tray feels flimsy, and its guides and markings are hard to see. (A second 150-sheet input tray costs $80.) The input tray's lid is also the 50-sheet output tray. The pull-out extension for catching paper constantly gets in the way: You have to close it to load paper, and it pushes against the input tray when the latter is stretched to fit legal-size paper. The single-sheet feeder for thicker media doesn't seem to work well; my photo paper consistently skewed.
The other problem with the X9575 Professional is its expensive inks. Even the high-yield, 485-page black cartridge costs $25, or 5.2 cents per page, while each high-yield, 500-page color cartridge costs $30, or 6 cents per page. Such prices will strain the budgets of higher-volume users.
Lexmark has some catching up to do in the quality department. In our recent reliability and service survey, the reliability of the company's products rated worse than average, while its service managed an average rating.
Small businesses and home offices looking for a truly versatile multifunction printer will find a good candidate in the X9575 Professional. Though it has its shortcomings, it's faster than the similarly configured (and cheaper) HP Officejet J6480 All-in-One, and it has more features than the Dell 968w does.

Strengths: Duples printing
Weaknesses: Takes 90 seconds to respond to a print command, and sometimes needs to be told to print a second time before it responds. Sounds like a thrashing machine in an echo chamber. Wireless.
Overall: I bought this as a replacement for an HP all-in-one because the HP wouldn't print correctly with Windows Vista installed. The old HP was great except that it wouldn't print 'Head-To-Head" in duplex mode. It would only produce "Head-To-Foot" two-sided papers. This X9575, at least, solved the duplex print problem, but by the time it starts to print I can make a pot of coffee and drink two cups before it finishes.

Strengths: Price
Weaknesses: Slow, not so easy to use after all
Overall: I bought this because it was supposed to print on two sides. It does, but only from one document. The software does not allow you print on the other side if it a different document. Also the duplex printer box gets jammed frequently. And the wireless is slow!!!! It is not as easy to use as my old HP. And it prints so slow.....perhaps from other reviews it my computer and not the printer, but it is very slow.....not fast as advertised.

Strengths: Double sided printing, wireless, LCD, and memory card reader
Weaknesses: Editing photos
Overall: I bought this printer for 149.99 @ office depot on sale. Extremely easy to use. Prints really fast and the double sided printing is incredible, i don't know how it does it! Scanning is pretty good and the wi-fi works well. Editing photos are a bit difficult but i'm not sure if I have figured it out yet. Make sure that you use the XL ink cartridges they are worth it. With black you are looking at about 450 pages with color maybe 325 pages. Quietier than the HP printers. Good value and great for a first time user of an all-in-one.

Strengths: Good construction and easy to setup both the system and the wireless.
Weaknesses: Software and networking.
Overall: The photo quality is good but less than the quality of the canon PIXMA series. However, I didn't attempt to fine-tune the photo optons. The biggest problem is the software will not allow you to share or use peer-to-peer networking for this system. (confirmed by tech. support) Once I connected the other two computers on my network all the advanced options were grayed-out. ie auto-duplexing and all the photo options. Therefore I sent it back.
