Samsung's LN46A650 ($1800 as of November 4, 2008--$100 more than its older sibling, the LN46A550, but significantly less than two other competing 46-inch sets, the Sharp Aquos LC-46D64U and the Panasonic TH-46PZ800U) is a joy to use from the moment you turn it on for the first time. That's when a wizard asks you to pick a language and inquires whether you'll be using the TV at home or in a store. Then it searches for channels and you're ready to go.

Samsung LN46A650 46-Inch LCD HDTV
LN46A650 Review, by Lincoln Spector November 14, 2008
The long, backlit remote contains a large, easy-to-hit Menu button. Pressing it summons a legible, well-organized menu that doesn't obscure the picture as you navigate through its options. Most settings that you change often are also on the shorter menu that comes up when you press the Tools button. And the menu that pops up when you press the Source button lists all of the TV's many inputs, but with the active ones (those currently sending a signal to the TV) at the top and highlighted.
Despite being extremely usable, this model has its annoyances. I had to turn off the special Entertainment setting (found on the setup menu) before I could change the sound mode. And though the LN46A650 has picture-in-picture, its remote lacks a PIP button to make viewing two inputs at once more convenient. But the programmable remote doesn't lack much else. It has buttons for changing the set's picture mode and the aspect ratio, and for turning on closed captioning; and it has an iPod-like jog wheel rather than a circle of arrow buttons, as on most remotes.
In our PC World Test Center evaluation, judges gave the LN46A650 an average score for image quality--a step below that of the 47-inch Vizio VO47LF. This model's 120-Hz technology is meant to help with fast motion and panning, but two jurors noticed pixelation and garbling in scrolling text. Meanwhile, I noticed that the Vatican's brick wall in our Mission: Impossible III Blu-ray test vibrated enough to make me think I was watching an interlaced clip.
The LN46A650 packs an array of features. The side-mounted USB port supports playing back music and photos from any USB storage device. At the rear you'll find an ethernet port for use with Samsung's InfoLink RSS service, which delivers news, weather, sports, and financial information from USA Today to the television.
The LN46A650 is a fine HDTV. Its stellar design and ease of use make it just the thing for viewers who appreciate both form and function.

Strengths: Samsung simply topped off every brand of HDTV. Sony is Samsung's direct competitor, but Sony's LCD is too expensive when compared to Samsung's LCD. This HDTV is an energy saver along with perfect image quality for Blu-ray movies. I recommend you to check out http://www.squidoo.com/best-hdtv for information on what is the best and cheapest HDTV to buy for 2009. It also tells you why LCDs are better than the plasma.
Weaknesses: I can't think of one. The one I can think of is that the visual performance of this LCD is too good to be true.
Overall: As and electronics sales, I recommend Samsung for its low price and high performance.

Strengths: Excellent picture quality; very easy to set up and use right out of the box; wide viewing angle; built in speakers are excelent; lighted control is a helpful feature
Weaknesses: None.
Overall: This is an excellent product and our family is very happy with the purchase. We debated whether to get the larger 52" size, but the 46" is excellent and a great value, and the 52" set would be too large for our den. Our kids love this television. It is very easy to switch between TV, DVD, gaming systems, and PC input.Ordering and shipping was excellent; no problems; set arrived ahead of estimated delivery timeline. Installation and set up was a no-brainer (we did not mount it on the wall) the documentation is thorough and easy to follow. We do not have cable, so did need a digital antenna (a must if you don't have cable).

Strengths: When you compare to sony or any other brand of tv's,Samsung blows them away. The quality of picture and price point you have to consider Samsung.Very easy to set up and had no problems with remote.
Weaknesses: The only problem I had was the tv does not keep good time for some reason.Maybe I am doing something wrong in setup.
Overall: As far as i am concerned this is the best LCD you can buy for the money. The TV seems to be of high quality and does not seem to be too much of a dust magnet.

Strengths: Good Value, High Quality
Weaknesses: The sound could be a little richer.
Overall: We just purchased this TV, and I am amazed at the quality of the picture on this set. It is so crystal clear and the colors so true that it is breathtaking. I just can't get over how great the picture is. Being an artist, I am visually sensitive, which is why I hesitated buying an LCD up until now. CRTs display the truest colors and the deepest blacks, so I have avoided LCD and plasma sets. However, our beloved Sony KV-36XBR800 CRT, which was a top of the line set with the best picture I had ever seen, quit working. Not wanting another 300 pound paperweight, I decided to buy this set after much research. I must say that this picture is better than the best HD picture our Sony ever displayed. It is much sharper, the colors are bolder yet still realistic and the blacks are deep and dark. The remote and menu system are easy to use, and the picture is extremely adjustable. However, I haven't needed to tweak the picture settings and just use it as it came straight out of the box.The sound is pretty good, too, although it could be a little richer. Adjusting the set's equalizer settings didn't make much impact on the sound. It's not a big deal, since I have it hooked up to my audio system.Glare is not a problem, and the TV is in a very bright room with several huge windows. Viewing angle is good, too. The picture is clear and viewable from any comfortable angle. The point at which the picture fades is at such an angle that one would not even want to view a flat screen CRT. You'd get a crick in your neck! The cabinet design, with the "Touch of Color" is a very nice touch of elegance. The rave reviews about this TV are well deserved. I just hope and pray that we won't have to replace it for at least 10 years, which is how long I expect a TV to last. The Sony bit the dust after only six years.

Strengths: Color strngth oncliberated is awesome, the black are real black. I used to own a sony and I think this set beats sony flat out
Weaknesses: time lag between source change, also the info link work ok but to turn it off its a big hassle. Limited playback capabilities from portabel devices. PIP doesn't work between dig sources
Overall: Overall I am very happy with this purchase and wife loves it especially for the color edges gives a very upscale feel. Haven't used much of 120 Kz capability but even the SD channels come out crystal clear. If one thing I could change , was the PIP so my son can lay his WII and I can watch my sports show at the same time using PIP. I'll definitely recommend this to everybody:)
