HP's Photosmart C6380 All-In-One color inkjet multifunction may target home photo enthusiasts, but it does a good job at nearly everything. Still, a few of its features are a bit skimpy for the price.

HP Photosmart C6380
Photosmart C6380 All-in-One Review, by Melissa Riofrio, PC World March 26, 2009
The Photosmart C6380 performed pretty well in our tests. It printed plain-text pages at a rate of 11.3 pages per minute (ppm), and color graphics as fast as 3.2 ppm--above average compared with the competition, though far slower than HP's claims (33 ppm text, 31 ppm graphics). On plain paper, text is just slightly fuzzy, and photos a little dark but smooth. Everything improved on HP's own paper, except flesh tones, which were orangey.
The silver-and-white box offers many useful features. Connections include USB, ethernet, and Wi-Fi. HP sells a Bluetooth adapter for $40. The control panel stretches along the upper front. Words and images on the 2.4-inch LCD can get awfully small, but accessing menus is otherwise easy using the adjacent navigational buttons. Function buttons (for copying, scanning, and photo-editing) are clearly labeled. Interesting copy features include on-screen previewing and cropping. Below you'll find slots for MS, SD, xD, CF, and PictBridge-compatible media.
The paper handling is basic. The main input takes a wide variety of media, up to 125 sheets of plain paper. It has a sliding width guide, but no length guide or extension; legal-size paper hangs out the front a bit. A piggybacked tray takes up to 20 sheets of 5-by-7-inch or smaller photo media. The lid for both components also functions as the 50-sheet output tray, which has an impressively sturdy pull-out extension.
The Photosmart C6380 ships with five standard-size ink tanks that fit into a permanent printhead: a 250-page pigment black (K), and 300-page cyan (C), magenta (M), and yellow (Y). The replacements are reasonably priced, but the high-yield ones are an even better deal: $27 for an 800-page black tank (3.4 cents per page), and $18 each for 750-page cyan, magenta, and yellow tanks (2.4 cents per color, per page). A page with all four colors would cost 11 cents. The fifth color is HP's "photo black"; according to HP, its $10, standard-size tank lasts for up to 130 4-by-6 photos (7.7 cents per photo); its $18 high-yield tank, for up to 290 (6.2 cents per photo).
A few things about the Photosmart C6380 seem not to fit with its midrange price. In most ways, however, it handles a multifunction's many tasks with aplomb, making it one of the better-designed competitors on the market.

Duration of ownership: 3 Weeks
Strengths: Fast Printing, Excellent Photo Quality, Easy Setup
Weaknesses: Slow Power on and off
Overall: Very Excellent printer, does exactly everything that I need it to do, and the wireless has work very well with my home Wireless g router. The slow power on and off makes thing difficult for a fast print job if you haven't had it on for a little while. I turn mine off to save power, but since it takes forever to start up, I wonder if its worth it? Either way, excellent in quality and speed. I recommend to anyone.

Strengths: None.
Weaknesses: Stops printing in color for some unknown reason. I called HP tech help and they were not helpful. Wanted me to trouble shoot forever, and thats not my job. Took it back to bestbuy who swapped me out another one. So guess what. Same thing, the darn thing will print a few pages in color and then nothing.
Overall: I would not buy this printer.

Strengths: Awesome photos, nice all in one, LCD display with animation for set-up or instructions, wireless, USB and memory card slots, separate photo paper tray
Weaknesses: haven't found any yet
Overall: I had 2 simple HP printers in the past, one had a scanner the first did not. I was always happy with the brand and since have had 2 HP digital cameras and currently a HP computer. I just gave up on my messy and noisy Canon mp160 printer (leaks black ink, smears on page, yucky print out) and rather than spend more money on replacing ink cartridges I purchased this new HP at MicroCenter for $195.00. Salesman was very informative and helpful in my decision. This printer is not heavy, it has a nice appearance, I just wish it was all silver grey or black; why did they make the scanner cover white? Hook up was easy, the cd installation took a long time (+20 minutes) and I got an error at 96% loaded and it quit, but began where it left off the next time I restarted my pc. The unit shakes the desk it sits on when its printing, I don't find it too noisy. The wonderful thing about this printer is the awesome photo printing! I have never had a printer that made such amazing color prints, they look photo lab quality, 4 x 6 paper total coverage side to side, beautiful colors with the 5 cartridge inks. I'm loving it! The scanner is great, not blurry like my Canon was. I hope this printer lasts a good 3 years or more, because right now I think it's awesome. I'm happily converted back to HP!

Overall: Very pleased so far with the printer. I am replacing my older HP. You just cannot go wrong for the price! I have two laptops connected to it and can print to the office from the family room. WOW
