Sony PlayStation 3 80GB
Sony PlayStation 3 (80GB; as Blu-ray Disc Player) Review
- From the outset, the PlayStation 3 has billed itself as more than just another game console. And this machine lives up to its promise: It's one of the most capable Blu-ray Disc players available today. The 80GB PS3 ($400, as of 2/18/09) has built-in gigabit ethernet and supports BD-Live (Profile 2.0) content that can be delivered via the Internet. It also supports Blu-ray Bonus View, for playing back picture-in-picture content.

Strengths: Plays blu-rays in 1080p and upscales dvd's, updates firmware easily, Easily saves movies, music, and pictures on the PS3 to share with other devices, and has free internet (no xbox live to pay)
Weaknesses: Expensive ($400 with 0 games), Games are more expensive then their xbox 360 counterparts just because their on blu-ray, and doesnt have too many GOOD exclusive titles.
Overall Evaluation: The Playstation 3 is an awesome media center allowing you to have all your entertainment on one device and sharing it easily with your other wireless devices. In comparison to the xbox 360 which is running on outdated technology (DVD) and runs games using 100% of its processing power the PS3 can run the same games without even using 50% of its processing power and supports the latest HD technology. It can very easily be called the best blu-ray player on the market right now but you pay a premium to have the best of the best. The same game will cost you up to half as much to buy for the Xbox 360 instead of the PS3, so every time you go out to buy a PS3 game you pay $60 instead of $25-$30 that you would for xbox 360 just because its on Blu-Ray. The games wont have any noticeable difference either from Xbox 360 to PS3 unless their PS3 exclusives because video game makers will make the games so their able to run on the least powerful consle (Xbox 360) then just portal it over to other consoles. Thats why PS3 shines with its exclussive titles like Metal Gear Solid 4, Valkyria Chronicles, and God of War III. The problem is that it just doesnt have enough exclusive titles yet, most of the games that are available for PS3 are also available on Xbox 360 for up to half price. The bundles that are offered for PS3 are also more expensive then the Xbox 360 and Wii bundles which doesnt help PS3 sales. Overall though I would recommend this product to anyone out there just wait until the price drops to around $300 for the 80gb bundle since they dont even offer you a bundled game for $400 right now.
