VisionTek VisionTek XTASY 6564 AGP 64MB GeForce3 TI 200

VisionTek Xtasy 6564
VisionTek XTASY 6564 AGP 64MB GeForce3 TI 200 Review, by Alexandra Krasne December 17, 2001

WHAT'S HOT: The first card we've tested with NVidia's midrange GeForce3 Ti 200 chip, the $180 VisionTek Xtasy 6564 did surprisingly well, even against higher-end boards. In Unreal Tournament, this card's frame-rate and image-quality scores matched those of the much more expensive VisionTek Xtasy 6964 GeForce3 Ti 500. In Quake III, the lower-priced board ran neck-and-neck with its sibling in all but 1600 by 1200 resolution at 32-bit color (it hit 62 frames per second, while the higher-end Xtasy 6964 hit a marginally better 67 fps).
WHAT'S NOT: In our Unreal Tournament tests, game play was slightly jerky. We saw some texture anomalies in Test Drive 6, in which yellow shapes appeared and the screen occasionally went dark for a moment. Also, we had to install the card's drivers manually because Autorun didn't work on the driver CD.
WHAT ELSE: The card comes with a driver disc, color-calibration software, and a coupon for PowerDVD playback software. The hardware is on the skimpy side, with only an S-Video-out port.
UPSHOT: This is an excellent card at a moderate price, although it might be best to wait until NVidia has fine-tuned its new Detonator drivers before you buy.

Strengths: Good Performance, TV Out
Weaknesses: Lack of Support from Visiontek, Cheap Cooling
Overall: This card has overall been okay. It does not have the best 2D clarity, but it gets the job done. 3D is pretty good with no slowdowns during intense action. I did have to upgrade the cooling as mine came with a cheap Heatsink and no fan. I would not purchase again due to lack of support from Visiontek, it appears they are now using ATI chips.

Strengths: It is just as good as everyone says and I am quite pleased with it.
Weaknesses: Will cause some boot-up delay and performance loss on Gigabyte AMD motherboards running 256 mb. of ram, but is not serious.
Overall: The issues I wrote about are known issues with Gigabyte concerning 2x-4x AGP cards and is a problem with the motherboard bios, from my personal experience on the GA-7DX and GA-7VAXP. I re-installed this card on my Compaq 7EL 7000T with 768 mb. of ram, Pentium III 800 mhz. and was rewarded with excellent performance and no problems of any kind. I would reccomend this card to anyone wanting a video performance increase over older TNT II PRO 64 or less as this is a very good card and quite inexpensive now.

Strengths: Most Bang For the buck
Weaknesses: Very hard to Find nowadays
Overall: This Video Card is Pimp to say the least. I have to give it the Most bang for your buck award. Although Very hard to come by knowadays I would have to say you should purchase A Gf3 Card before you purchase a GF4 MX.. Stay away from MX They are Brutal cards.. Anyways If you can spare the money buy a GF3 Ti500 but GF3 Ti200 is known the less a Great Video card For any game so far. I have Played Almost every game on the market and have had remarkable frame Rates. If you ever have Problems with this vard Make sure it isn't your Drivers.

Strengths: Anti-aliasing works well in Flight Sim 2002...noticably sharper renderings of planes
Weaknesses: No improvement in frame rates...in fact, frame rates went down...FS2002 is like a slide show now
Overall: I'm disappointed, since I researched this card heavily before investing in it. At least I got great service from ENPC. Ordered the card on a Wednesday and rec'd it the next day, even though I chose UPS Ground as the shipping method. I've only owned the card for a day now, and haven't had time to tweak it, but I plan to invest a little more time working with it before I give up on it completely. It's possible that the bottleneck is my computer (e-Machines eMonster 500a; P3/500; 256MB, 13GB & 20GB drives (20GB has dual cooling fans blowing air over it from the front of the case)). I guess I could always invest in a new Athlon XP-based computer (wink).

Strengths: Works with the Intel d850 d845 motherboards
Weaknesses: Price
Overall: I had tested several gf2 and gf3 cards to find out which ones were compatible with the systems boards we will be using, the video card mfg are not very reliable when it comes to what works with what and to many times they will say its a bad Motherboard when their card is incompatible with a MB This is the issue with 3.3vdc cards and 1.5vdc agp slot motherboards. I would have to say this is the card we will be installing in our systems.
