Konica Minolta MAGICOLOR 2200

User Reviews for Konica Minolta MAGICOLOR 2200

  • Reviewed by: deltadana

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: I do not need high color matching, but crisp color. I'm satisfied with color capability when it works.

Weaknesses: Most of the time it does not work! I have to send even the most simplest files many times to get it to print and sometimes it won't print at all. I also have to turn printer off often to reset it.

Overall Evaluation: This has been a terrible printer. The first one, I got replaced after a month. This one also has similar problems and I now want a different model or purchase an HP. I have had it! We have loaded too many driver/firmware updates. Recommended file size can't even be obtained from QMS customer service level 1.

Strengths: Nice picture and text quality, not too slow, setup fairly easy, cheap!

Weaknesses: Can not use glossy paper, only semi gloss. Minolta Color matching (default) looks bad. Print server software didnt work with win98 correctly, works fine with 2000 server.

Overall Evaluation: This is an impressive color laser for the price, picture quality is close to a xerox 860 (2x the $). Its not the fastest printer but it comes close to the advertised 5ppm color. Only downside I see to it so far is the cost of supplies is more then ink stick type printers. Much better option then an ink jet.

Strengths: This printer is definitely one of the more affordable laser color printers on the market. More practical than InkJets and B/W lasers...

Weaknesses: Color is not accurate as claimed; stunning, no, practical, yes. There are a few unresolved technical issues with this printer. Color adjustment is poor even w/ICC, & page adjustment if off-centered.

Overall Evaluation: All-in-all, I knew when I purchased this printer, it would be a fill-in for a standard B/W laser (with the added color), of course... But it has left me with bad vibes... The Nightmare... I had the tech repair people (they use IBM printer services) here several times about a page alignment issue, and it can not be resolved. If your printer prints slightly off-center, you got one of the many... Bad news if you plan on using labels! Although Minolta Technical Division is aware of these issues, they still have not resolved it in the 2200DL. I was fortunate enough to have it replaced at no cost. They also waived the on-site tech visit charges. Bravo to Minolta for that! Unfortunately, my replacement printer also prints slightly off-center-Just enough to make printing labels a nightmare, and I cannot convince them to send me yet another one... The Costs... Toner and replacement parts are too costly if you do a lot of printing too... It costs about the same to replace the entire printer with a brand new one as it would to buy all the disposable/consumable parts. In fact, that is what I would consider doing... It is simply cheaper to buy another one, and sell the old one for a buck or two... Would I buy again?... I would not purchase this one again... ever! With this said, it may be a good fit for someone not interested in the color or page accuracy and someone that does not do large color print jobs day-in, day out.

Strengths: I like it better than the inkjets I have used.

Weaknesses: Noisy. Very limited on media types. Most glossy medias won't work. Few labels work also.

Overall Evaluation: I like what it does on plain paper, but its limitations on other media types is a real bother to me. I had hoped to print some photos on glossy paper.

    Strengths: Good general quality

Weaknesses: Slow, lots of paper jams on large jobs, and toner is very expensive

Overall Evaluation: I would recommend this printer for a general office printer. We purchased this printer to print flyer's to hand out to customers, and the quality was not as good as I would have liked. For the money, I would invest a little more, and get a LED color laser printer.
