Olympus C-2040 ZOOM DIGITAL CAMERA
Olympus Camedia C-2040 Zoom Review
- WHAT'S HOT: The C-2040 offers aperture-priority, shutter-priority, and full-manual exposure controls. Fifteen possible combinations of image quality and size--including a range of sizes for uncompressed TIFF pictures--should satisfy just about any photography need. The C-2040 turned in good picture quality, producing photos with good detail and accurate colors. Our outdoor scene could have been brighter and crisper, though, and a few artifacts disrupted the fine lines in our test pattern shots.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Great picture quality; lots of options for different picture qualities, exposures, etc.; adjustable flash (factory setting was kinda bright); AA batteries are lasting forever; good value
Weaknesses: almost too many picture options; menu system is a little more complicated than it needed to be; included lithium batteries didn't last long and cost a ton to replace
Overall Evaluation: I was not exactly sure of what to look for when I decided to buy a digital camera. After doing a little bit of straight spec comparison, the Camedia 2040-Z seemed a great choice for the money, though I knew I'd want a larger memory card than the included 8 MB SmartMedia card. I had originally ordered it to go along with me on my family vacation; it arrived just in time so I was able to test it's abilities right away. I came back from San Francisco with nearly 80 high-quality (1024x768) pictures that will let me remember that vacation for a long time to come. Another reason that I chose this camera instead of a higher-resolution model was because I knew I'd be doing less printing and more electronic proliferation of my pictures so it works well that I can take so many great looking pictures in a usable resolution for web-work and emailing. It's a great camera and I have little doubt that I will stick with Olympus in the future.

Strengths: excellent lens quality. f/1.8 aperture for low light. accurate flash for indoor shots. good color balance.
Weaknesses: menu system not so convinient, especially for manual mode.
Overall Evaluation: Overall, a fantastic digicam for the money. It features a f/1.8 large aperture high quality aspheric 3X zoom lens which produces sharp pictures with good color balance both indoor and outdoor. Exposure with built-in flash is very accurate. Lightweight. Good for upto 8x10 size. My only complaint goes with the menu system which takes sometime to get used to, if you are more than a point-and-shooter and want to use manual mode to take more control.
