    Duration of ownership: 6 Months

Strengths: Easy to install, stable and reliable

    Weaknesses:Its warranty is too short

Overall Evaluation: In total, this model of WDC hard drive is excellent. I have been using for 6 months since last Thanksgiving. However, to extend its warranty, I have to spend extra 15 bucks.

    Duration of ownership: 14 Months

Strengths: High capacity, good all around performance (sequential and random access), reasonably quiet, effective heat dissipation.

    Weaknesses:Occasionally produces a high-pitched whine, only 1 yr warrantee.

Overall Evaluation: I'm been using two of these WD 200GB hard drives in a RAID1 (mirror) configuration for a little over a year. Has worked perfectly, no bad sectors. However, compared to say the Seagate line, the WD line is a little more noisy, not by much, but enough to be noticed. For a single drive system, probably not an issue. However, on my system with TWO of these in a RAID1 configuration, PLUS, another two WD 120GB hard drives in RAID0 (striping), the noise level seems to be cumulative, they emit a high pitched whine that *some* people may find annoying. Personally, I've simply gotten use to it. If you insist on DEAD SILENCE, go for the Seagate line. Also, at this point, it's a little silly for ANY vendor to be offering a measly 1 yr warrantee, considering Seagate offers 5 yr warrantees. Granted, a replacement of a Seagate drive in yr 5 perhaps isn't worth much, BUT, is a 3 yr warrantee too much to ask? You can usually purchase a 2 yr extension on the WD website for $15, but then why not simply buy the Seagate and save yourself a few bucks. All that said, I've found these WD drives to be good performers and reliable, and recommend them. NOTE: Please beware that having owned many WD hard drives, I can tell you that the noise level varies widely from unit to unit. I once had a 120GB WD hard drive that was so noisy, I thought I would lose my mind (whiney beyond belief). Replaced it with another, no problem. So if you get a particularly whiney HD, consider exchanging it, may simply be an exception. The noise level varies much more among the WD line than any other line of HDs I've owned.

    Duration of ownership: 2 Years

    Strengths: Fast, reliable, quiet.

    Weaknesses:None.

Overall Evaluation: I read mix reviews about the reliability of the WD drive. However, I have had owned 4 WD drives, and none of them give me any problem. The longest among the four I have been using was four years. I can feel a big difference in speed with 8 MB cache vs the old 2MB cache IBM hard drive that I still have. 200GB is a lot of space. Just a to warn those whoever use the Ultra Promise card that come with it. Make sure you install the driver rather than using the windows xp driver. Although windows xp will automatically installs the driver, it will only shows 137 GB, and drive will be unreadable.

    Duration of ownership: 1 Weeks

    Strengths: Reliable, fast

Weaknesses:Somewhat louder than other HDs1 year warranty

Overall Evaluation: WD is a top name in the hard drive industry and has cutting edge performance and some good technological breakthroughs. Since they made the RAPTOR then you know there must be some improvements they passed down to these slower 7200RPM drives which makes them perform slightly better than average. Only complaint would be the slight chatter you hear sometimes.

    Duration of ownership: 3 Months

Strengths: quite, fast and easy install

    Weaknesses:none so far

Overall Evaluation: I bought this drive 3 months ago during the after thanks giving sales. According to my previous experience with other drives, I waited for a while to write this review. So far, I haven't had any problem with it. It is fast and quite. I hope it remains this way.
