    Duration of ownership: 3 Months

    Strengths: Capacity of drive, very quiet. Sleek unit.

    Weaknesses:Drive carriage is plastic and looks nothing like the sturdy carriage shown in picture. Hard drive unit physically 'wanders' when running (could be fatal if drive is sitting on high surface unattended)

    Overall Evaluation: The unit is reliable but no warnings were made about the 'wandering' potential. I was lucky to be sitting beside my computer while it was running and witnessed it 'walking' across my desk. Don't leave unit unattended unless it is either secured or on a non-skid surface.

    Strengths: Great drive

    Weaknesses:

    Overall Evaluation: its cheaper than the western digital ext. hdd's, but all the simpletechs i have use western digital internal hdds in them! it is quiet. i am very happy with this line...this is the 3rd i have bought within the past month...great value AR too

    Overall Evaluation: I purchased another drive before this and returned it because of the complicated instructions for instillation. This is my second Simple Tech and I think I will appreciate this one as much as I do my first one.

    Strengths: large capacity, quiet, clean design, great value, on-off switch, firewire/USB 2.0 for flexibility, stand minimizes footprint

    Weaknesses:Not designed to be stacked. No stacking accessory included. Design lends itself to stand unit upright.

    Overall Evaluation: The Simpletech 400GB external firewire/USB 2.0 hard drive was such a great value for the price I had to buy two (one to back up the other). These are beautiful units to look at - satin aluminum and black. The unit has a large capacity at 400GB, it is quiet, there is a stand to minimize the footprint on my desk and an on-off switch is very useful when I have made my back up. Assuming they remain functional for the next few years, I believe they are a great value.
