    Duration of ownership: 4 Months

    Strengths: easy to use compared to some other programs such as delorme

    Weaknesses:not as powerful. I'm also pissed that they took away a lot of the detail of the roads, creeks, dirt paths that they had in 2002. Why would you take stuff away? !!!

    Overall Evaluation: I'm not going to pay for the next version if it doesn't bring the detail back. That's a personal annoyance. It used to be so accurate on curves and such (as well as the landmarks like creeks would help) that I could have my brother navigate for me like a rally car racer and I could count on every turn he predicted. If you don't care for perfect detail and want something that's going to keep you from ever getting lost, this is perfect for you.

    Strengths: Easy use interface.

    Weaknesses:No turn-by-turn voice instruction. PPC version is almost useless.

    Overall Evaluation: Hardware: Only has PC interface (USB). Unless mounting or having someone holding a laptop for you, this is not a handy solution for GPS tracking. An optional BT adaptor is available in the market, but $99 price makes it much expensive than other integrated BT GPS. Software: No voice instruction. Have to look at the laptop screen to find out the place, not safe for drivers. Included PPC version only tells you where you are, almost useless when in an unfamiliar place.

    Strengths: Good price, easy to use, very acurate

    Weaknesses:Lack of voice command, enability to synchronize current location displayed on the map to the section of the route displayed in the other window

    Overall Evaluation: It is a very good tool when you travel with someone who can help you with manipulating the display. I would not go with PCA version as on your laptop you obviuosly have much large screen. I wish that a new vesrion of the program has the following: 1. Voice command 2. Sychronization of two windows: map and route description 3. Ability to show me the shorest way from the current location 4. Improved map acccuracy in Nova Scotia 5. Improved locations current roadworks 6. Avoid roadworks when searching for the best route

    Strengths: great price after rebate, easy to use software

    Weaknesses:no voice prompts, otherwise an extremely solid package

    Overall Evaluation: I bought this for my upcoming vacation / road trip. I had it for a good price after mail in rebate and coupons. Definitely cheaper than the Delorme GPS package, which is the main competition.The GPS works well, able to pick up multiple sattelite signals. Small form factor is a plus, although the suction cup does not work all that great. I'm using it with my Dell 700m, with no issues at all.The mapping software is extremely easy to use. Installation was a snap. The only thing I would have wanted to see would be voice prompts, like the Delorme software has. Although having somebody in the passenger seat to follow along negates the need for voice prompts.

    Overall Evaluation: Welcome to Microsoft Streets and Trips of affordable GPS linked to a phenomenal mapping program. If you find yourself traveling to points unknown I cannot imagine a better solution for getting around than this product in conjunction with your notebook. I love the Microsoft Streets and Trips, before, I only had a copy of it installed in my laptop without having the CD and the locator equipment. When my computer messed up , then I had to buy a set with the locator equipment.I was fascinating with it. It was very useful to me when I had to do some surveys for a wireless phone company without this program I would not be able locate all the sites for the surveys. This program provided the greatest accuracy in located those sites. The GPS equipment, which is included in the package (GPS locator) made up for this deficiency in the program. The marriage of Streets and Trips to the GPS locator has made this a very functional affordable GPS unit. There are some comments about the Microsoft Streets & Trips mapping software. I am familiar with locating places relying on my (mind) memory, Microsoft Streets and Trips blows my mind away. I had no contest with Instantaneous panning, zooming in and zooming out, outstanding routing software, besides a ton of other features makes Microsoft Streets and Trips, by far, the favorite mapping software. There is a weakness, hopefully, this might be helpful to others who might encounter the same problem: Downloading the software into a computer does NOT load the drivers. It must be done separately with the Setup disk when one first attaches the locator device. If one fails to put the Setup disk into the computer and let it find the driver automatically on that disk, then the program will not recognize the locator. It is a quite bit wasted of time when trying to figure out what was wrong. I recommend this product to anyone who plans drive to another city in which they are not familiar with.
