Strengths: Just a printer
Weaknesses:Beware if you do not buy Ebson Ink replacements.
Overall Evaluation: This printer is came with my MAC G4, packaged as a bundle for a reduced price. Replacement ink cartridges are expensive, so I purchased a black non Epson cartridge. Found out after installing the black ink cartridge that printer sends message to computer, or how ever they install that stuff (I am not savvy on internal computer messages) that non-Epson cartridge has be installed and now it won't print anything. The 3 Epson color cartridges worked before. Now Epson wants $19.95 for tech support did not ask if they would refund money if they didn't help me. Found this info on printer message on a blog site while searching for printing problems with Epson printers. So I guess this one will go into the trash (great for the environment, right?!), just because I tried to save some money on ink. Fortunately the office supply store will refund my money on the generic black cartridge and the 3 Epson color cartridges that I purchased, (I didn't really need the color cartridges, but replaced them just because ink levels showed they were getting low). So, In my opinion be careful before trying to use non manufacture replacement in cartridges in an Epson printer, you may end up having to buy a new printer.

Strengths: Ultrabright pigment inks, great print and image quality, works fine until it dies...
Weaknesses:Cartridges a bit pricey, machine died after only 15 months of operation
Overall Evaluation: The C-86 is the 4th Epson I owned and produced arguably the best general-purpose output but it also had the shortest ever lifespan. My prevous C-82 lasted over two years but the C-86 died 3 months after the warranty expired. The really intereting thing was that it worked absolutely fine up until the day it died. No gradual deterioration... All of a sudden it just didn't print and no number of head cleanings would help. At Epson Support's suggestion I wasted about $40 installing new ink cartridges but the beast was dead and since it was out of warranty Epson wasn't going to send me another one.The other thing that cheesed me off was that I bought it with a mail-in rebate that I never got a check for...

Strengths: Great prints, great pictures (except the frequently mentioned not glossy thing)
Weaknesses:INK INK INK. Uses tons to clean, and ink nozzles will clog PERMANENTLY if the printer is left unused for more than a month.
Overall Evaluation: Print quality is excellent. My low rating is due to Durabrite inks. They are essentially ''paint'', meaning that if you don't use the printer for 2-4 wks, the nozzles clog. And the printer manufacturers (all of them, not just Epson) refuse to allow you to clean ONE ink color. So, you run the clean cycle 4 times, the ink is still clogged, and now you're out of ink, even tho you haven't ACTUALLY used any ink in the nozzle that is clogged. Replaceable print heads would be nice, or a better purge. I actually went through 2 high capacity black cartridges trying to clean this time... no luck. However, if you use it weekly, you shouldn't have a problem. It cheap for a throwaway printer for the home, however. I'll steer clear of Epson until this is fixed, unless I can get a printer (like this one) that is essentially free.

Strengths: Really good printing quality and printing speed.
Weaknesses:It costs a lot to buy a new ink cartridge.
Overall Evaluation: This is a good printer for home use, both on quality and speed. I use it to replace my Lexmark printer, which I am not satisfied at all. However, considering the high cost of the ink cartridges and the noise of this printer, I can only give 4 stars for it. If you are interested in a self-use printer, just for normal printing, not for photo printing, this may be a good choice.

Duration of ownership: 3 Months
Strengths: Fast printing, good quality, compact, nice design
Weaknesses:Not photo quality printing
Overall Evaluation: This printer is very good for its price. It prints really fast and the quality too is quite good, though I would say it is no where near photo quality printing.
