Duration of ownership:
Strengths: easy interface, quick routing
Weaknesses:none
Overall Evaluation: I've used couple of different GPS navigation tools+software before getting this TomTom for PocketPCs. My first was TomTom for Palms on a Palm Tungsten T3, which was a generation before Navigator 5. It worked well, routing was quick, I liked the night/day modes, and address search. Then I bought a Navman i510. While I appreciated a dedicated GPS unit, the software was terrible. Adjusting look-ahead rate was impossible and I would always end up with a very coarse 3D view. Searching for addresses was impossible because the unit would only let you select house numbers from a menu (that you had to scroll through). And no dedicated night mode. To top it all, slow routing. Needless to say, this TomTom beats Navman's software in every category. So far, I have no complaints about the software. It works well on my BenQ P50 cell phone/PDA with different bluetooth GPS units (PalmOne's + OEM 16 channel somewhat non-standard unit). I have not tried any of TomTom's extra services, but their availability is certainly a plus.

Strengths: Interface is easy to use, big onscreen button, no need to use stylus. Free realtime traffic report service until end of 2006
Weaknesses:Installation! especially on WindowsMobile5
Overall Evaluation: This is one of the best navigation software in the market. I really like the interface that make it so easy to use on the road, all big button, just use finger to touch the screen, no need for stylus.

Duration of ownership: 6 Months
Strengths: Hard to find any when you have no support
Weaknesses:Lack of Customer Service
Overall Evaluation: Tomtom Navigator 5 Software I Have owned this software since August 2005 (6 months now). The program works great. The Semsons I.Tek M3 BT GPS receiver and TOMtom bound with my Siemens SX-66 PPC without issues. The only map related problem I had was near Lancaster PA when I the roads did not come up accurately. Instead of names, Tomtom listed them as "township x." I am hoping there is an update to this. My gripes are for one, customer service is horrid! When I got the software, there was an error and I had to attempt re-install. It still would not work. I placed an email on their support site. I was expecting a timely reply, but never got one at all! So anyway, I attempted another install of the application into my wife's Pocket PC. It worked thankfully. In any case, I was given two activations because of this. Apparently that is all the activations you are allowed. After that, you cant even install the software. That is my second complaint. Because now, 6 months later, I have upgraded my windows mobile pocket pc phone edition device and I can't install it. I have placed no less than 3 phone calls over a 4 week period to their CS dept only to talk to a "level 1" support person. My message was taken in detail outlining my above complaint, and a "level 2 technician would call me back within 24 hours." Well, only once did they get back to me and that was only ATFER the 2nd call, and nearly 2 weeks AFTER the first call mind you, leaving me a voice message because I wasn't home, that my old device was not on their compatibility list, giving me instructions on calling back AGAIN "if I had any problems." Naturally the company wants to prevent piracy and limit installs. Who doesn't do this nowadays? But at least have CSR that can help the legitimate users who spent a lot of money on something that won't work at all. Lastly, TomTom is overly priced in comparison to other software, by a good 50% margin on some. Anyhow, my third call was fruitless, rehashing everything I reported originally and TomTom has neglected this customer. Go with another vendor and save yourself the aggravation.

Strengths: Not only does this program navigate ,it can give you weather conditions, places of interest and speed blocks.
Weaknesses:Downloading is slow using hotsync to sd card in handheld. It is much faster to use a card reader.
Overall Evaluation: The navigator 5 upgrade is free if you purchased your gps before march 15 2005.You only pay shipping. The navigator 5 plus has many more new features over navigator 4.There are more programs you can purchase after you try them free for 30 days. The weather condition, traffic jam locator for large cities and speed detector is only a few. Some program are only in Europe now but will be in the USA soon. This program is worth the coast. It can locate places of interest in any city.It can calculate time and driving speed to destination. It has many voices and languages to select to use on your handheld.
