Strengths: Pretty effective sound projection technology. No complex wiring/sound deck required. Mounts well on the wall. Video pass through.
Weaknesses:Complex remote (difficult to understand). Menu's on the TV only work with composite video out.
Overall Evaluation: Motivation: We recently bought a 1979 built house and I am NOT a handy person. So, I thought I will buy this so that I can minimize the wiring required. I saw a demo in one of the local electronics store, but could not feel the surround sound. The sales guy was saying, it is because, of the way they setup without walls to reflect the sound. I thought I will take a chance and buy it anyway.Set Up: First of all the set up was pretty simple. Only hitch there was, till I figured out I need to connect the composite video to the TV for the on screen menu display to work, I strueggled. I initially had component video out connected to the tv and could not see any menu's. The set up involved connecting the mike they provided and setting it up in the living area and pressing selecting the "automatic setup" menu. It produces very loud sounds when it does that. I was doing this at 1 am in the morning :-)Surround Sound Quality: The surround sound quality is pretty good considering that it is simulated and you actually do not have a phyisical speaker producing the sound from the back. It actually has the speaker "test tone" that you generally have for surround systems with 5 speakers. You can send test tone to Left, Right, Center, Surround Left and Surround Right and actually feel that they are coming from that direction.Negatives: The remote is pretty complex. It does not have many buttons but the remote or the manual are not very intutive. You need to experiment a little bit. The mount has to be purchased separately and it is expensive. All the inputs/outputs are in the bottom of the unit. I would have preferred them to be on the back making hiding the wires easier. You can difintely feel the need for a powered subwoofer (has to be purchased separately and I did not have that) when there are low frequency sounds.
