Overall Evaluation: Works fine if you a backing up to another hard drive. However, it did not work with my CD/DVD+RW drive. Calling tech support was very long, and in the end not helpful.

    Strengths: none

    Weaknesses:the entire softeare package

Overall Evaluation: I cant install it along with much of the software on my computer they seem incompatible. I get a variety of error messages and the program closes. also apparently my CD rom is incompatible so making a bootable ghost image is impossible(its a common LG DVDRW that is in many different brands of laptop including Gateway and Acer) I called tech support and wasted an hour of being bounced from on unknowlagable person to another no-one knew what was the problem. they told meto reboot and reinstall I had don all this before but I humoured them anyway no solution the norton protection center part is a wast of resources as windows XP security center handles most of what it does anyway and it fails to recognize symantecs own corporate antivirus as a valid antivirus program. go figure! I am following the return process and hunting for a simpler but usefull alternative. I will be very surprised if I get any response. as for how long I have been using it... its been installed and reinstalled over a few days but I have yet to use it since I cant!

    Weaknesses:Its totally messed up.

Overall Evaluation: I had version 2006 on my old drive. I used a different software to clone my hard drive. When I used my new hard drive I got a message that save and restore can not be installed on two different machines? I am stumped!! I thought one of the most purpose of save and restore was to help in upgrade. I am not able to use this product on new hard drive and I booght this product just a month back for $60

Strengths: None that I can see.

Weaknesses:Doesn't work if you have other software/devices installed. The errors message you will get will state, "An uncommon error has occured" Well great but how about more information.

Overall Evaluation: I have the same opinion as the poster above me. I bought it to move my 40gb drive to a 320gb drive. I'll admit I had a bunch of trouble doing this but after spending an entire afternoon I was able to switch drives. After that I went to conduct a backup but the funny thing is S&R is still reporting my 40gb drive. So being a Release Engineer by trade I uninstalled the proudct, deleted the symantec folder and then checked my registry. Once I thought it was clean enough I reinstalled S&R and it still listed the 40gb drive. This to me suggests the Symantec writes registry entries that can't be removed or modified once there. These registry entries are also hidden and won't come up using the search function. This is when I contacted support, well the turnaround time for a response is 48 hours which I find unacceptable since our own Tech support department doesn't do that. Well over several emails that had the strong impression they were following a script that was made from keywords. Well I made the mistake of mentioning that I had itunes installed. Well that is all they needed. Symantecs reponse to me now is to install some gear security drivers. I asked what these drivers are for and was told that third party apps use them to access the cd/dvd drives. The strange thing is I use my cd/dvd drives everyday for viewing and burning of both formats and no problems. I've also never had a problem using itunes. Well its to the point now that they won't move the support any further unless I install these drivers. Its strange that backup software would have conflicts with applications that aren't running, with devices connected to the usb ports and need drivers to access drives it shouldn't be during a backup. One of supports first suggustions to me as to why I can't complete a custom backup job is my harddrive must be below 1mb of free space. Hmmm its says I have 50gb free. I haven't used any Symantec products in a long time because I got very tired of working around their conflicts but wanted some backup software and boy was it a mistake. I will never ever use another Symantec product again.

Strengths: For me...none. It might have some strength, if the function for which I purchased Save and Restore worked.

Weaknesses:1. Will not handle NTFS Dynamic drives. 2. Symantec's support IS LITTLE HELP! 3. If you did not buy it from Symantec's store or "retail partners", you may be out of luck in returning the product.

Overall Evaluation: It is a NON-FUNCTIONAL PRODUCT for me. I bought Save & Restore (S&R) so that I could clone my boot drive - a 40GB drive to a new 300GB drive. I had high hopes and was happy to have such a useful product. The cloning function will not work? The best that I determined ? after taking several hours of my valuable time to figure this out ? is that for NTSF drives, this product will not handle Dynamic NTFS drives. It seems to recognize Basic NTFS drives. Ahhh?but I will loose my data if I convert from Dynamic to Basic. So I have purchased shelfware. You can see below that Symantec is not responsive other than ?the development staff is working on the problem?. More details?.I cannot see the C & D drives in the windows that S&R displays and therefore cannot clone a drive nor can I make a backup of the drive. I talked to Symantec support at least 5 or 6 times...and on some occasions demanded and received second line support (which was a "supervisor"). On the second call, the 2nd line support took files containing my system information and said they would forward it to support, and that I should hear back from Symantec in a few days. ?A few days? or ?3 or 4 days? are phrases Symantec support uses freely ? WITH NO RESULTS. Other the above call to get my system information, no one from Symantec has returned a call as they promised to do over and over. Needless to say, I wanted my money back but was told by Symantec Customer Sesrvice that since I didn?t buy it from Symantec's store or from Symantec's "retail partners" (my words), I must go through the online retailer to get a refund. I am out of luck in returning this product. The ?Price Grabber? store from which I purchased it has not responded to my emails?another lesson learned. In case you cannot tell, I really really really am disappointed in Symantec. This experience will make me carefully consider any future purchases of their products?which, by the way, I have used for more than 10 years.
