Strengths: The HP deskjet 6980 prints documents and photos quickly. The printer rectangular style and deep blue color is attractive.
Weaknesses:HP has chosen to use HP PhotoSmart software to operate the 6980 Deskjet which has created problems in printing documents. The print, even after utilizing several printing options, is over saturated and the print is not crisp and clear. My older HP Deskjet 5550 performed much better in printing documents.
I've printed a few photos with the 6980 and find the clarity is crisp and clear, however skin color comes out too light... without the warmth one would normally see in a photo.
Overall Evaluation: HP has made a mistake to use PhotoSmart as the deskjet operation software. HP needs to review the attributes of the software used in the HP deskjet 5550 and its subsequent models that were superb in printing documents and photos. The printing technology of the 6980 has improved overall but the software lacks the attributes of its older deskjet models.

Strengths: Super fast printing, sleek/simple style, nicer color than the generic beige and white. Its wireless!
Weaknesses:none so far
Overall Evaluation: I've had this printer for a few months now. When my lexmark printer gave out after only 7 years of service (laughing), I wanted a no thrills printer and did my homework and came across this one. Its exactly what I was looking for. Just print and keep it simple thats all I wanted and this printer has done that so far. I bought the duplexer attachment for this printer because I like to save paper and space and its been working perfectly. This printer works with a router to give it a wireless setup but it won't work on a subnet it has to be the main router which is the case most of the time. I really don't have anything bad to say except that when printing in FastDraft mode it prints so fast that my flimsy desk shakes back and forth but I don't care, I guess I should move from the top shelf. You won't be dissappointed with this one.

Strengths: * Network connectivity* Print speed and quality
Weaknesses:None
Overall Evaluation: I installed this printer to service a few Windows Vista workstations in a small business office. If you have a basic idea on how to configure TCP/IP properties of a network-enabled printer (as many other such devices, this printer is configurable via a web browser interface), you should have it set up and ready in minutes. I did not even bother installing the full printer driver manually. Once the network link was ready, I had Vista look for the printer and download the driver automatically. The whole process took maybe 5 minutes. The users of this printer are very happy that they can share it, they like its speed and quality of output. While I would not recommend this printer as your primary device (the ink will cost you a premium), it is a great supplemental printer for those, who wish to be able to print an occasional color document or photo. To address some of the wireless connectivity issues described by earlier reviewers, I suggest to wire this printer to your wireless router and then print to it via TCP/IP.

Strengths: Wireless networking! high quality printing and color. Web interface is a nice touch.
Weaknesses:Overly complex setup-3 manuals, lots of unnecessary software.
Overall Evaluation: This printer replaces my old HP 895 deskjet. After a lot of looking around, I decided on another HP because of the good reputation and consistent performance. The wireless networking is a godsend and eliminates some of the endless tangle of wires around my computers. The only downside to this is that when my wireless signal drops, of course the print jobs are interrupted; but this is really a problem with my router. Occasionally the printer picks up more than one sheet at a time, but it still prints fine-it only matters if I am printing something 2 sided. It is annoying, but I haven't used it long enough to tell if it will really be a problem. UPDATE Now that I have had the printer for a while-I am glad to say that it has stopped picking up multiple sheets when printing. Also, after replacing my wireless router, the connectivity problems are gone! Overall, I am very happy with it-it prints consistently well, with good quality, and it is easily managed over the network. I do wish sometimes that HP felt less need to include such reams of documentation (3 separate manuals!) and ancillary software, but I find that it is a wonderful upgrade to my printing capabilities.

HP Deskjet 6980
This good everyday printer delivers solid performance without distracting or pricey extras.
In a time when inkjet printers tend to bristle with card slots, LCDs, and other fancy features, HP's Deskjet 6980 sticks to the basics. Its peppy overall speed and very respectable print quality suit it for a business-minded small or home office.
