Strengths: Easy to install/use
Weaknesses:Somewhat pricey
Overall Evaluation: Taxcut is great software. Not only does it make doing your taxes easy, but it helps you to get a greater refund check! Also, if you ever run into problems, "you've got people" in H&R Block.

Strengths: Easy import of previous years, supports imports from other tax programs, deduction calculator finds TONS of deductions I miss, and I know what I am doing
Weaknesses:No longer a free e-file so either buy this version with e-file included for both federal and state, or pay later.
Overall Evaluation: I have been a loyal TxCut user for many years now - a look at my bookshelf shows boxes going back to 1997 - and I have been more and more impressed with every year's new version. One year I thought I would save some money by buying TurboTax on sale and I regretted it immediately. I am not saying this as someone who loves a product and will bash anything that is different - I genuinely could not stand the interface and dummied down input screens that mde it too hard to enter more advanced tax features and deductions that TaxCut lets you quickly switch back and forth from the 1040 and GUI. I have to admit I AM a bit disappointed that back in 2005's filing year they stopped offering a free e-file via rebate and switched to this pay in advance version, but that's the breaks. I normally buy the Federal+State version and just mail in my forms to save the money, but I got a good price on this e-file version this year and was eager to try it out since I already have an adjusted W2. I am happy as always.

Strengths: Accuracy, help from professionals
Weaknesses:got a different result through turbotax
Overall Evaluation: While for years I have always considered TaxCut to be the better product than TurboTax, this year I input my data into both and TurboTax gives a larger refund amount! Now I have to figure out which is wrong. If you ever need help, it's very easy to do so through H&R Block. That is the main reason I prefer TaxCut. It's a great software with better support.

Strengths: No mail-in rebate for e-file. Easy navigation.
Weaknesses:None.
Overall Evaluation: I bought Taxcut 2006 because I liked it last year. Data were transferred from last year's Taxcut file easily, which saved some time to input data. It guided every step and I had no trouble filing both federal and state tax. Last year, the fee for e-file had to be claimed by mail-in rebate. However, this year, there was no need to send in mail-in rebate.

Review:
TaxCut Premium + State + E-File
This package has a comprehensive interview and a fair price but awkward navigation and unclear instructions.
TaxCut wins points for simplifying its purchase process this year. Instead of having to choose between Basic, Premium, or Deluxe, you're offered one version for federal returns and need decide only whether to buy state return software and prepay your e-filing fees. TaxCut + State + E-File costs $60; Premium + State costs $30; and Premium (for federal returns only) costs $20.
