Just turn the dial to iA and the camera will not only help eliminate blurring from hand-shake or subject movement, but it will also detect up to 15 faces and automatically select the focus, exposure and scene modes for the best results. The Face Detection function automatically chooses the optimal settings to make sure faces appear well-lit and in focus. This advanced technology can detect up to 15 faces in a scene, and will even automatically readjust the settings if their positions change. In Intelligent Auto Mode, the camera automatically begins focusing even before you press the shutter button, so you'll never miss an opportunity for a great shot. With your Panasonic Lumix digital camera in Intelligent Auto Mode, the Intelligent Scene Selector will sense the ambient conditions and automatically select either the Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night Portrait or Night Scenery mode accordingly. With the camera choosing the settings for you, you'll get beautiful results every time you shoot, no matter what the scene or subject.

Duration of ownership: 2 Months

Strengths: iA, 3" screen, face detection, and the iSS and the great movie mode quality, very nice

Weaknesses:zoom using movie mode

Overall Evaluation: I am so impressed with this versatile camera. The iA feature pretty much takes care of everything. A very easy to use, take anywhere camera. The movie mode takes great video in all formats, very impressive. So many people are surprised as to the quality of pictures it takes. Although quite a small camera, it certainly packs a lot of punch for the money and it all fits into your pocket. Although, if you purchase this camera from one of the hard sellers, the battery does last quite a long time, not the 15 min's they tell you. Bottom line, you won't be disappointed with this little gem, lots of great features too.

The Lumix DMC-FX55 compact camera has a superb 3-inch LCD, but the screen saps battery life, and images weren't as sharp as those of the Panasonic FX100.

Sheathed in a brushed-silver metal shell, Panasonic's $350, 8.1-megapixel Lumix DMC-FX55 is as elegant-looking as it is functional. Though not quite small enough to slide comfortably into a shirt pocket, this point-and-shoot digital camera combines a compact size with a sharp, bright 3-inch LCD viewfinder and user-friendly controls. It also has the feel of a solidly built machine--one that will stand up to many photo-worthy travels. If silver is not your color of choice, it also comes in black and metallic pink.
