Strengths: None makes a very high priced paper weight
Weaknesses:No operation manuals. No USB cable . No on/off switch. Poor Technical Support. Patches and Upgrades dont work and cause malfunctions. Will not interface with AOL for Email .Poor quality copies.
Overall Evaluation: I will not purchase epson products due to the problems I have encountered while attempting to use the scanner and the lack of Technical Support Epson given via telephone, Email or US Mail.

Strengths: Windows XP Support ? Tech support available on web (within 24 hours), phone support availabe on non 800 number.
Weaknesses:Poor results when scanning slides
Overall Evaluation: Using Windows XP Home edition on two systems, and latest twain (5.54 in Epson10235.exe) with Epson Perfection 1650 Photo, received unacceptable results while scanning slides, both 35 mm and 1 in square. Most images had a black border on two sides, some were reversed (negative for a positive film), some were even rotated 90 degrees. Web support offered corrective instruction for a previous version of Twain even though Windows XP and Twain 5.54 were specified in problem report. Telephone support, offered that the only way to scan slides was one at a time, marking the image area to be scanned, even though a film holder was supplied that holds 4 slides.

Strengths: None. A very average to below average scanner.
Weaknesses:Very poor operating instructions. Operating manual is virtually useless.
Overall Evaluation: There are much better scanners available than the overpriced Epson Perfection (?) 1650. Technical support slow and unresponsive. Need to be sure Windows XP is operating perfectly or the Epson will not install at all. The scan to e-mail feature will not work with America Online. Quality of scanned material leaves much too be desired. The scanner has no on and off switch. Power must be unplugged from outlet to turn it off. In summary, this a poorly designed, poorly supported, and mystifying to use product that I intend to return as soon as possible.

Strengths: Perfect CCD chip, 48 bit colormode, especially with slides. Very good quality, durable and easy to use.
Weaknesses:maybe the automatic mode, but I don't use this feature.
Overall Evaluation: The scanner is very fast (up to 650 kb/sec> The setup is very easy in manual set up. The colors are very natural, especially when you have calibrated it with your printer, screen and programm. I don't think there is a better scanner at the moment in this price/product rate.
