Netgear WG511T 108 Mbps 802.11G Wireless PC Card

    Duration of ownership: 1 Years

Strengths: little bit faster than the current 54mbps 802.11g

    Weaknesses:not fast as advertised

Overall Evaluation: I am using this with a WGT624v2 router that it came bundled with. I tired comparing speed with my integrated intel wireless cards. Netgear on 108 mbps mode transfers a video file that I have in 69 secs, while intel takes 85 secs. Not much of a improvement. When i see the connection speed on netgear software, it shows I am connected in 108 mbps mode, but when I start transfering huge files, it immediately drops to 54 mbps mode. Is this a joke? I don't get the 108 mbps speed when I start using it. When I don't use it, it is hooked at 108 mbps. Totally a waste of money.

    Strengths: NONE

Weaknesses:randomly drops connection;bad, very very bad customer service

Overall Evaluation: I exchanged a few emails with their support then they asked me to call so that we could try a few things together. I called this evening. After long wait and answering questions like serial number/model number/etc., I was really amazed in the end that the clueless netgear representative told me the solution was to go back to store and return the product. It seems that they don't give a **** to their customer or their buggy product. To make things worse, the barely English speaking representative didn't want to find me a technition who knows a bit more than registering the product, he didn't want to tell me his name, and he didn't connect me to his supervisor either. I have to say that I've never ever had this kind of bad customer service call with any company. Netgear set the new record, congratulations!

    Duration of ownership: 2 Months

Strengths: No Antenna, Software driver easy to install.

Weaknesses:Tech Support is the worst, Must email to get support, takes days to get response, then their emailed solution is wrong, once in awhile you can get through on phone.

Overall Evaluation: After wasting countless hours and days and approximately 20 hours)trying to resolve this, I finally went out and bought a Belkin 54g wireless adaptor for $19.95 after rebates, set it up in a few minutes and it worked. Even Netgear Level 2 Techs could not ID the problem.Netgear use to have great support but this experience has shown how a good company can totally go bad. Support with Linksys, Belkin and other companies I have dealt with are so much easier.1.You have to go through Automatic Phone Hell just to get to the point of being put on hold forever or cut off and have to start all over.2.The Level One techs in India are not very knowledgeable.3.The Level Two techs want to point fingers at everything but NetGear?s Problems.4.I found some of the Level Two techs are rude or condescending.5.I was told that the problem was my Window 2000 settings, (even though the hardwired network card would work with the current settings). Then said it was my problem not NetGear?s.6.After spending hours checking settings and trying different things.I am the network administrator for many systems have spent $1000?s of dollars with Netgear. The only reason I wasted so much time on this is because I wanted to upgrade many of our Laptops to wireless with the 108 mbps speed.Netgear lost a long term customer today; I will never buy NetGear again.MY SUGGESTION WOULD BE IF NETGEAR DOES NOT CARE ENOUGH TO OFFER EFFICIENT SUPPORT (and solve your problem in short order) TAKE EVERY THING BACK AND BUY ANOTHER BRAND.I hope this helps someone else.

Strengths: Solid performance, plug n play, fast!!!

    Weaknesses:None

Overall Evaluation: Paired with a Netgear WGT624 wireless router wired to a Netgear FVS318 wired router. Perfect matchup, advertised throughput. I am able to walk down the street and have a full signal, it goes through walls, floors and past lots of other electronic equipment. Also has all the security features you'll need including WEP and WPA 128 bit encryption.Great product.

    Duration of ownership: 5 Days

Strengths: 108 Mbps with matching NetGear WGT624 router, Super good reception, easy setup for Gaming, Video Conf, great encryption, good drivers and profile software

    Weaknesses:no apparant weaknesses

Overall Evaluation: With the matching WGT624 router, I get 108 Mbps in basement with router 2 stories above. Goes through floors and walls, outside in yard too. Has WEP and WPA capability for security, using WEP doesn't appear to slow it down. Detects access points real easy. Easy to set up and use profiles for switch from home and work. See my review for the router for comments on advanced routing applications. I bought card for $70 and router for $111. I would recommed this card for small businesses because of its advanced capabilities and ease of use. Also good for I.T. students learning about wireless.
