Duration of ownership: 3 Weeks

Strengths: Easy to use. Questions are designed to help you just as an accountant would ask.

Weaknesses:When you ask for a form, it sometimes sends you to a worksheet instead and not an easy way to find the form while working.

Overall Evaluation: This product has improved over the years. It had a wider range of questions so it was easier to find where to put income and expense information. It is easy to use. The big problem with 2005 was that I was asked for more information after completing the error check. In fact, I was in the process of efiling When I was asked more questions. When I tried to find out why, it sent me to a worksheet although I asked for the form. I didn't quit the efile and try to search for the problem. As a result, I had to send an ammended 1040X because the questions added to my return in a place it should not have.

Duration of ownership: 3 Years

Strengths: Leads user through the entire process. Contains all forms.

Weaknesses:Over the past few years the help section has become weaker.

Overall Evaluation: Indespensable tool to make an unpleasant task manageable. TurboTax Premier has good tools for managing stock trades and managing rental property. Imports previous year's data automatically (if you use TurboTax in consecutive years). This year's version has a new look, which I thought was less helpful than the previous style. TurboTax also allows importing of tax form data (W2, 1098, 1099, etc), although issuer participation is still fairly low.

Strengths: E-Filling.

Weaknesses:Too many to list.

Overall Evaluation: Could not take any of my deduction. Instead of getting money back, I had to pay. I will do it myself from now on. I would like to give it a negitive number, if I could. Don't buy it!

Strengths: Great program for most users except for those who cash a stock option

Weaknesses:Information from the interview does not transfer to Schedule D in accordance with IRS instructions

Overall Evaluation: I have been using TurboTax for over 10 years without a problem. In 2003, 2004 and 2005 I cashed Non Qualified Stock Options and that started all of my problems. The problem started last year after I filed my 2004 taxes. In May 2004 I received a notification from the IRS that I owed more on my 2003 Taxes which were e-filed due to the fact that they had a copy of the brokers 1099 form from 2003 which showed a large sale of stock with no indication of the costs except for the commissions and fees. The 2003 Schedule D (Calculated by TurboTax) that I had filed showed the cost exceeding the Sales price by the amount of commissions and fees for a net loss on this form. There was no indications of the details of this stock transaction (Number of Shares & Exercise Price) even though all of the details were entered and showed up in the NQSO worksheet. They indicated that they were going to charge me with a significant tax increase with penalties and interest. I responded with copies of the NQSO worksheet, the brokers Option Exercise statement and a company statement showing the stock option exercise details. This satisfied the IRS and they sent me a notification accepting my explanation. After receiving notification above, I filed a 1040X for 2004 with a marked up Schedule D which showed the number of shares & the company name on line 1. They accepted this 1040X for 2004 and sent me a notification indicating as such. Two weeks ago I again received notification from the IRS that they had received a 2004 1099 form from my broker and that I possibly owed more in taxes and penalties. I just finished responding to them with the same information that I had sent after the 2003 tax year notification that I had received initially. I have not yet received their response. Now I am preparing my 2005 taxes and I am stuck with the same situation. The information on Schedule D Part 1 Line one only indicates the Company Name and does not transfer the number of shares exercised as indicated on the NQSO Worksheet. There is also no indication of the details of the stock option exercise/sale (Number of Shares, exercise price, Stock Sale price Etc) in any other document which is part of the e-file package. When I bought my 2003, 2004 & 2005 Premier Packages I expected to be able to e-file my returns and that I would not have to manually fill-in or override your information
