Strengths: Easy to change frequencies, charger works well
Weaknesses:Poor volume, reception is static
Overall Evaluation: I purchased this item after buying an itrip for my last two ipod tranmitters(mine & my wife's). Due to the new configuration of the 80g ipods, I was in the market for a new transmitter. I figured a Griffin product would be pretty reliable. Boy was I wrong. The first problem with this unit is you can only use it if you have a 12 volt outlet nearby (basically limits it to a car, boat, RV, etc...sorry, no boom boxes). The other problem is that the volume is no longer controllable with the ipod click wheel. It has a preset volume level that's grossly under powered. Every time I try to turn the volume up, along with the increase in volume you also get an annoying increase in static. If your a music fan that leans toward the more subtle nuances of music(Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Elton John, etc...) this will become unbareable to the ear. Do yourself a favor and spend your money elsewhere. I wish I would have spent my money on the 'monster' transmitter.

Strengths: Very clear sound out of car FM radio. Recessed buttons to control FM frequency.
Weaknesses:Set FM frequency frequently changes.
Overall Evaluation: I lost my previous iPod charger/FM transmitter so I bought the iTrip charger/FM transmitter. It is smaller and has clearer sound quality than my previous one. In addition, the buttons to control which FM frequency it will transmit on are flush with the surface of the iTrip. That is important because my old one had raised buttons that often got inadvertently hit as it was being moved around inside the car, causing me to lose the signal on the radio. ---------------------------------------------------- There are three bad things about the iTrip*First - several times a week I have to reset the transmit frequency to 107.9 MHz (no local radio stations on it near me) because it has defaulted back to 102.2 MHz. This happens only when I first get into the car. In my car the power socket I use for the iTrip loses power when the car is off. iTrip power plug is smaller than the previous one and goes into socket firmly and doesn't shake loose. *Second - I find the scan rate for changing frequencies a little too quick and once it gets to the highest/lowest frequency it rolls over to the lowest/highest and continues the scan. I would prefer it to stop or pause when reaching the end of the frequency range. The frequencies I listen to FM transmitters at are at the low and high end of the FM frequency band. *Third - Another "feature" of iTrip is after you press the stop button on your iPod, 5-15 seconds later the FM transmitter shuts off so you then get static on the radio. ----------------------------------------------------The problems are a slight inconvenience but overall this one is much better than my previous one. Very good sound quality is the take away.

Strengths: Has a strong signal without static. Simple, small and connects well. Works with all iPods without cradles or adapters.
Weaknesses:Wire sometimes gets tangled or pinched in console or caught between seat.
Overall Evaluation: I have tried several different types and found this model works best. Others even by those made by iTrip quit working due to crushed & crimped wires or blown fuses; they also fell out of the cradle types.

Duration of ownership: 2 Weeks
Strengths: It charges the iPod while plugged in.
Weaknesses:Very low volume (even with sound check off). Lot's of static. If the output volume from your iPod is low, the device shuts off after a period of time.
Overall Evaluation: I bought this to be able to play the sound of a movie over my SUV's radio while the kids watched in the back using an aftermarket ceiling mount LCD. It seemed like a good idea since you can store more than enough movies on a 5G iPod to last most trips. I was expecting not perfect sound, but at least good enough to hear the dialog in a movie, however, it's terrible. 87.9 seems to be the most reliable in my area, but even so the static is louder than the dialog. What's worse is that at some quiet points in a movie, the device shuts off (it's meant to autodetect an audio source from the iPod, but the threshold seems too high) and because you have the volume turned up high on the car radio to hear, you suddenly get blasted by white noise from the radio. If they fixed the threshold, increased the output volume and signal strength, this would be a good product. As it is, it's not really useful except as a charger.
