Weaknesses:Bad quality, circuits can short out

Overall Evaluation: I just got this drive from Outpost.com and plugged it into my 1st computer as a slave to my Western Digital 120G hard drive. I turned it on and the lights on my computer flickered and triggered a fuse. I smelled something burning. It was my Western Digital drive. Now, my computer would freeze during bios bootstrap if the WD is plugged in. I thought that might have been an anomaly. So I decided to try it on my second computer. I unhooked all my other hard drives (UATA & SATA) and dvdrw drives. I set the seagate drive as the master via cable select. I inserted the EIDE1 master UATA ribbon and turned the computer on. Sparks came out of the Seagate drive for about 2 seconds. It triggered the power supply fuse and powered down. I pressed the power button on my computer, nothing. I waited about an hour and retried. The power came on. I plugged all my HD and DVDRW drives back. My second computer did not suffer any damages. Thank God. I have one 160G Barracuda and many Seagate Cheetah (SCSI) drives with no problems. I must got a lemon. Be careful!

    Strengths: Quiet, reliable

    Weaknesses:none

Overall Evaluation: I have 4 of them in my file server. All work well 24/7 for 4 month. They are faster then WD drives and not so hot. Rotating parts are typically well balanced, no noticeable vibration in a contrast to WD drives. I recommend those drives for server use.

Strengths: Fast, quiet, large capacity for price, great file transfer program

    Weaknesses:None, so far

Overall Evaluation: I purchased this from Outpost for $69 after $50 MIR, and installed it on my Dimension 4600 (it replaced an 80gb drive by Seagate) and I was pleasantly surprised to find that for certain tasks like DVR recording, video processing files, and DVD burning, the performance quadrupled. For example, it used to take about 1 to 2 hours for Nerovission express to process the tv shows I recorded using BeyondTV, and now it takes less than 1/2 an hour. The processing increased from about 1000 kbs to over 4000 kbs. All thanks to the upgrade. I don't know how it works, but I am very happy with this drive. Also, I received very quick and clear support from Seagate when transfering my files from the old drive to the new one, OS and all.
