    Strengths: None.

    Weaknesses:Does not work.

Overall Evaluation: The hard drive I used with the adapter was preformatted and had data on it. The computer would not even recognize that the USB connector was connected to the computer. I would not recommend anyone to buy this adapter unless you like to throw money away!!!

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: It looks like it would would...

Weaknesses:It does NOT work as advertised!

Overall Evaluation: I work for a computer forensic unit and I have to say that this product is one of the shoddiest products I have ever used, and is from one of the most unprofessional Companies that I have ever seen. Our division bought several of these items through TigerOnline.com approx. two months ago. They're usefulness with the 2.5/3.5 IDE adapters made them very attractive to us, since we do a lot of work with laptop drives in the field. To our surprise we realized that the 2.5 HD adapters did not supply enough power to actually spin up a contemporary laptop drive. Each of our items was faulty. I called Sabrent to see if this solution could be rectified someway and was given the run around. Tech support wasn't qualified to answer my questions and didn't even know the product. When I voiced my complaint to their sales rep, JEFF, he actually sent me a link (and said "try this") to a standard laptop adapter to use on the 3.5" side; only making that 2.5 side irrelevant and would mean that I would have to purchase another adapter to attach to their adapter to make up for the power limitations. I worked for over a month to try to rectify this solution and was totally ignored and pigeon-holed. This product DOES NOT work as advertised and the company is TOTALLY unprofessional. Don't waste your money!!!!

Strengths: Works as advertized. No external enclosure to deal with.

Weaknesses:Drives get hot after prolonged use.

Overall Evaluation: I've used the device with three 3.5" IDE drives (a 60GB Western Digital hard drive and two 80GB Samsung hard drives) and had no trouble reading or writing to the drives. It comes in handy when I want to get files off an old unmounted hard drive, but I use an external enclosure with a built-in fan for daily operation because of the heat issue.
