  Duration of ownership: 5 Days

  Strengths: Generally works well and is a good value for the money. Image quality is good for photos and general video and very good for DVDs. DVD control is smooth. It's quite small.

  Weaknesses:Requires proprietary video cables. A bit techy for the casual computer user.

  Overall Evaluation: I've had larger, much more expensive units that only worked a little better. This thing is solid and does what it needs to do. Though the A/V I/O is quite versatile, it does require hard to get Galaxy proprietary cables that look like standard cables, but aren't. It took some searching to find out how to use some of the esoteric features, such as playing music for a slide show, or changing the screen saver text string. All in all, a good value.

  Duration of ownership: 4 Months

  Strengths: Makes watching DVDs easy; no more discs to malfunction or not play on different players.

  Weaknesses:Remote control is very touchy. Fast forward is only 8x.

  Overall Evaluation: I love this thing so much that I am buying a second one to use with a second drive. I recommend this product to anyone who likes to watch movies, etc and wants it to be a very easy experience.

  Strengths: Compact, easy to load with info via USB, reasonable playback quality.

  Weaknesses:Navigation awkward and buggy, even with new firmware.

  Overall Evaluation: Overall, I'd say the TVisto is a decent device for those that don't want a full-blown media PC sitting by the TV to play MP3's, show pictures, and play movies. With a reasonably large harddrive, one can store a lot of media. Of course, without networking capability, you'll be moving it closer to a computer to update the content, but that doesn't seem to be an issue. The weakest thing about it seems to be the way the remote/navigation interacts with the unit itself. For example, if you're playing video, you have to explicitly hit the "stop" button before moving to other content or a different movie. Also, the navigation around directory structures is a bit limited; if you leave playing a video, there isn't an easy way to "go up one directory" that I've found. Sometimes the unit I have stops responding to the remote while playing content; the content continues to play, but it requires a hard reset to get it to stop. Overall, even with the limitations, it gets the job done. It might have a little bit of a learning curve for "mom," but with a bit of the old "if it breaks, reboot it" training, it is perfectly functional.
