    Duration of ownership: 1 Months

    Strengths: Thin, light, and inexpensive

Weaknesses:Does not have mutiple page feeding option

Overall Evaluation: I bought this to replace an old HP scanner I had. This one is lighter, thinner, and a great price point. I don't really like the program that it comes with though and it does offer a multi-page feed function like my HP had. It does the job without the bulk but I would say my previous scanner was easier to use and had more features.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Excellent quality, fast , ease of use

    Weaknesses:Requires external power supply

Overall Evaluation: With many brick-n-mortar tech retailers switching to offering only all-in-ones, i was forced to look online for a scanner-only solution. The reviews for this model were good, and I am very happy with the previous Canon scanner I had, so I did not hesitate to buy this model. This is a very good scanner for personal use. The software is very easy to install and set up, and in daily use shows all the pertinent scanner settings that are quickly accessible. There is a built-in film strip viewer so that all those old photographs taken on film can be quickly digitized and archived. only complaint I have is that it requires an external power supply. The other Canon LiDE 55 model runs off the USB and while handy, is not terribly vital in everyday use.

    Duration of ownership: 2 Weeks

Strengths: Price, features, easy to install, slide and negative scanning built in, and Canon quality.

Weaknesses:No on/off switch, one of the bundled software items caused a problem with email in Yahoo Browser, had to uninstall.

Overall Evaluation: This is upgrade from a HP 4200c scanner that I have been using since Windows 98. I am planning to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows Vista and HP states it will not be releasing an updated driver for the 4200c. I have a Canon ink jet printer and I really like Canon products. I researched several scanners but I was especially impressed with the 4400F. Great features and price, along with the ability to upgrade to Vista.

    Duration of ownership: 7 Days

    Strengths: Inexpensive. Good scan quality.

Weaknesses:Slow scans at 300dpi. No scan preview. Bad installer.

Overall Evaluation: This replaces a HP ScanJet 4200C that stopped working after 3 years. The silver/black scanner is more attractive than the tan HP scanner. The Canon scanner is a bit noisier than the HP and slower. The Canon software/utilities installer requires 450MB on C: before it will let you install anything - you can change the drive assignment for each utility individually after the installation begins. There are about 10 buttons on the scanner for various scan features: 6 for PDF-related scans, 4 for copy/print/film related scans. So far, it looks like each button starts up the Canon scanning application, which requires you to click/set some scan settings before the scan is performed. Overall, this scanner appeared to be the best quality/value in the sub-$100 price range. Would buy again.

    Duration of ownership: 7 Days

    Strengths: Sharp scans; Great price

Weaknesses:Auto scratch removal blurs image slightly if used on entire photo at one time

Overall Evaluation: Great scanner for the price. The scans are so detailed that you can see individual dust particles. Of course, this means you have to remove the dust particles (digitally/physically) before printing out the scanned photos.
