Duration of ownership: 3 Months
Strengths: Very good IPS display, doesn't have overheating problems of the new aluminum series
Weaknesses:Only 3Gb of RAM max
Overall Evaluation: Well, if you want a very nice machine for the money grab this one, if you still can find it. It has a very nice, expensive IPS display that's great for any graphics and for watching movies. It doesn't have the the problems of its successor - the aluminum one, so if you can live with a bit slower processor, go for this one instead.

Strengths: Large screen, looks nice
Weaknesses:where to start - crappy RAM installed, won't turn on
Overall Evaluation: The day our new iMac arrived we were very excited. We had several Mac's in the past; iBook, 2 PowerBook's, G5 Tower - we love Mac's but we do not love the iMac we purchased. The first day we had it, we spent hours on the phone with Apple because of a kernel panic error message. In the end we had to drive 2 hours away to an Apple store to have the RAM that was installed by MacMall replaced with the original RAM from Apple. After that, we thought things would be fine. We came home, turned the computer on and it ran fine for a day. Now, it won't even turn on. So again, 2 hours to the Apple store to have the power supply replaced. So, from receiving the iMac on 1/11/08 until today, we have driven hundreds of miles, spent countless hours on the phone with Apple and we still don't have a working computer. If you plan to purchase this computer, make sure to purchase the Apple Care Plan, you are going to need it!

Strengths: Absolutely beautiful design, wonderful screen (high resolution and terrific color - perfect for movies - nicer than some TV's out there) - completely easy set up - cool tools
Weaknesses:RAM is a bit weak as some have said - will be upgrading
Overall Evaluation: I went from a 1999 model IMac to this new machine. I work with state of the art PC's all day and have a new Dell Windows Vista laptop at home. As always, the MAC is years ahead of PC's in design, functionality and ease of use. The fact I kept a 1999 machine around all this time (just getting too slow now for videos/movies, but never had a day of overall discomfort) is something to be said about longevity - and I'm somewhat tech savvy. This is a terrific upgrade at a great price - I am a MAC lifer for home use and would not recommend anything else. Pricier to start off with but the extra potential years of use while still staying current make up for it.

Strengths: It's a Mac!
Weaknesses:Computer is very quiet, but you can hear the fans whirring very softly in a low noise environment.
Overall Evaluation: Beautiful integrated design with the Apple operating system, where things are intuitive and just plain work. You can get VMWare Fusion (or Parallels) and an old copy of Windows XP and run XP right within OS X (some programs are written better or only for Windows, and certain websites need Internet Explorer or Windows Media Player to function properly).

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: The monitor size and resolution are impressive. The computer is super fast (particularly if you upgrade the Ram--see below). Plus, the new OS for Mac is great!
Weaknesses:Ram (1 GB DDR2) is a little weak. Parallels (software which allows you to use Windows at the same time as the Mac) is not included in the package. Also, you have to buy your own copy of Windows!!
Overall Evaluation: I had to upgrade the Ram to 3 (2GB+1GB), which was very easy. I also had to buy Parallels and Windows XP. Afterward, everything ran great (super quick and very user friendly). Still, I ended up spending an extra $300 for all of the stuff listed above, so the low price is a little deceiving!
