Strengths: I liked the sound better than any other in the store.Very inexpensive at Costco, about $60, but no more there, I think

    Weaknesses:Handle is kinda dumb

Overall Evaluation: I've had about four of these for various locations and liked them a lot...in a small room the sound is great....There IS a Mono setting for the tuner, people should read the directions..My units have had a tough life in construction areas and still want to work, but the busted antennae and sawdust in the control buttons (but not the CD player, strangely enough, have caused me to retire all but one, and now they cost a lot!

Strengths: looks good and it's not heavy. The sound was not bad either.

Weaknesses:The CD player stopped working after just a few weeks.

Overall Evaluation: A friend bought this boombox and the CD player also stopped working after using it a few times. I also tried to use the cassette player and it did not work at all. Sony should recall this item and return everybody's money.

    Strengths: Easy to use

Weaknesses:cd player stopped working after 14 months

Overall Evaluation: Very conveniently, the cd player stopped working right after the warranty ran out. My son uses this machine to listen to music while he drums. It was just perfect for him, but Sony did absolutly nothing to help out.

Strengths: Remote works well, blue light is pretty.

    Weaknesses:Everything else.

Overall Evaluation: Let's go from the merely bad to the truly terrible features of this piece of junk - First, sound. I bought this to replace my old Magnavox, whose volume control was finally going after 10 years of daily use. (Unfortunately, Magnavox stopped making them, so I couldn't just get another.) When I got the Sony home, I compared its sound to the Magnavox's and couldn't believe the difference; music and talk sounded amazingly better on the Magnavox. The Sony's sound is tinny, flat, without resonance. It's got a couple of sound settings that correct this somewhat, but not enough to produce decent sound. I kept it because I was busy & didn't feel like returning it and shopping for something else all over again. Big mistake. The radio reception is lousy - again compared to the Magnavox, which pulled in stations this one can't even try for - and very, very static-y. There's no "mono" setting, either, to cut down on the static and help pull in stations. But the worst thing is the CD player, which began hesitating in the middle of CD's right about the time the warranty expired (not that the warranty would have helped - after 90 days, you have to bring the unit to Sony's service center & pay for everything except defective parts to get it fixed). Now it just quits every five minutes or so throughout a CD. I have to stop the CD, switch the unit to another function, switch it back, reload the CD, and search through tracks manually till I find the one it was on when it clutched. It's "Hello, dumpster!" for this baby. Tape player worked fine ([except of course for the flat sound), but I used it very little, so don't know if it too would fold under normal use.
