  Duration of ownership:

  Strengths: Extremly good cooling. Can be used without fan under the right conditions. The Antec P180 case and this cooler, a marriage made in heaven! Most of the weight at the bottom of the sink. Great looks.

  Weaknesses:Tall, may not fit some midtower cases. The included fan is noisy. Check motherboard compability on Scythe home.

  Overall Evaluation: I had a Thermalright XP 90 before this, with a 92mm fan on it. This is a good "horizontal cooler". But I could'nt find a fan for it that did have a really good balance between low noise and cooling ability. And as the "tower coolers", like the Ninja often is more effective than the horizontal heatsinks ( The horizontal heatsinks, are better at cooling the components around the socket though) I decided to get such a tower sink. After some research, and after reading Silent PC Reviews (SPCR) very positive review about the Scythe Ninja cooler. I decided to go for it. It's as said a tall sink. But if you measure your case and discover, that you have a couple of cm space between the top of this cooler and the case side panel it's no problem. And as said before. Make sure you check the motherboard compability at Scythe home. There are 3 different versions of the Ninja. The Ninja orginal, The Ninja plus and the Ninja Plus revision B. The Ninja Plus rev. B does'nt need a motherboard removal when mounting. The other 2 versions does. This is also one of the few heatsinks with a wider space between the fins. This will allow you to use low rpm fans without too much air resistance from the cooler. I use the super silent 120mm Noctua, 1200 rpm fan. Lowered to 850rpm ( 45 CFM ) on the Ninja. The Noctua fan wont work on a heatsink that have tighter space between the fins.This, due to the slightly different angle of the fan blades. In an Antec P180 case. The Ninja perfectly lines up with the exhaust fans. So, it is possible to make a simple duct out of glossy cardboard and some duct tape. And connect the Ninja to the rear exhaust fan. And then just let the exhaust fan suck the hot air from the passive cooled Ninja. I have tried this with good results on a 400MHz overclocked AMD Athlon64 3000+ .s 754 Clawhammer ( max load temp = 52 C). And the Clawhammer, s.754 Is'nt the most cool running cpu you can find. I'm now using this heatsink on a Athlon64 4000+ s. 939, overclocked to 2.8 Ghz. And have a max, load temp at 44C. And an idle temp at 32C in 22C room temperature. The Noctua 120mm fan on the Ninja is running at 850rpm. But this is my "summer set up" In the autumn, when the temperature gets lower. I remove the fan and simply duct the Ninja. Some good and silent 120mm fans for this cooler: Aerocool Turbine, Akasa Amber series, Acousti fan, Nexus, Noctua, Scythe S-Flex and Yate Loon for ex. I'm very pleased with the Ninjas performance. It looks nice too. Can't think of any other heatsink that I would like to swap to actually.

  Strengths: Good cooling. Huge fan, 10 heatpipes, copper base, easy to install

  Weaknesses:VERY TALL, lacks fan controller

  Overall Evaluation: So far as aesthetics are concerned, it looks great in a case. It's big, has tons of fins and has a that shiny brushed steel top. The fan is huge and covers the entire side of the heatsink. It is quite wide. On most modern placements of RAM, this heatsink may make it difficult to access the memory. Overall, the performance is excellent, but it needs to be...not so tall. It is VERY tall. Make sure you have a wide case before buying it. If you have a fan in the center of your side door, you will probably have to remove it. It has 10 heatpipes and has excellent cooling. For such a large fan, it isn't very noisy either, but it would be nice if it had a fan controller like many do now.
