  Overall Evaluation: It took eight trys just to download the software, none of the buttons work and it finally works you either get error messages or the paper will jam.This scanner will not work with windows xp! Wish I knew this before buying.

  Overall Evaluation: I like this scanner. I used it for doucuments only. For picture or photo scan, you should use a photo scanner. It works great so far. the ADF is very very convenient. I bought it because of this feature. Highly recommended for home or small office use.

  Strengths: Has a document feeder and can scan negatives and slides. Scanner warms up pretty quick and has good resolution.

  Weaknesses:The software provided with scanner could be better. The software doesn't provide many options and uses a bad interface.

  Overall Evaluation: If you're looking for an all around good scanner this model has a document feeder, okay sized flatbed, negative, and slide scanning tool, and a pretty good responce time for scanning after being inactive. The only thing I didn't like was the software provided for scanning documents in and storing them. This is our second HP scanner, our first one didn't have the ADF and it's a good feature to have, especially scanning duplex. I think the PaperPort software HP use to provide would have been better. I think HP makes some of the best scanners and this is no exception.

  Strengths: Compatible with Vista. Great small or home office scanner. Faster lamp warm up and scan speed than I'm used to for similar price. ADF and duplex scanning packaged with this low price.

  Weaknesses:The shortcut button graphics on the front of the scanner aren't exactly clear about what they do. I'm still unsure which one will just make copies.

  Overall Evaluation: This is a great value for a small or home office scanner. I had to replace a "good" HP scanner with this because my home office upgraded to Vista. I paid around $300 for both of thes and one of the critical aspects I have been looking for wasn't ADF compatable, but actual ADF, which this one contains. I was really surprised that is also duplex scanned (front and back). I have a great deal of documents I need to scan in for a subject database and a plain flatbed scanner (previous unit) just doesn't make that a fun thing to do. This unit, the 5590 makes that chore les of a chore and since I use this for faxing, it also saves time with multiple pages to send as I no longer need to scan and save files to be sent later. The 50 sheet ADF hopper is a great function. Also, this scans in all functions twice as fast as I am used to. I like it.

  Weaknesses:- software again- use other software and then the scanner is great- if you want nice photos look for a higher resolution scanner. Make sure it's not the software either - just use common sense.

  Overall Evaluation: This is my 3rd HP Scanner this is the nicest. Not perfect for scanning photos (mine gets colored streaks - thinking maybe I just got a dirty feeder). The scanner is doing the job I bought it for which is scanning multiples papers into the computer for emailing, copying, and archiving (into word, pdf, etc files) and hasn't jammed yet! I'm trying to virtually go paperless. I am using other programs with this scanner because Hp's software isn't up to par yet? why? who knows - but it's very unreliable. Even with the bad software I would highly recommend the scanner. The saying is 'you don't always get what you want, but if you try sometime, you get what you need' !!! and there it is all summed up - I've been waiting on HP for sometime now to iron out the flaws in the software and that just won't happen so knowingly I decided to go with it! And overall - I'm pretty satisfied.
