Strengths: Crystal Clear Pictures, High Zoom Capabilities, Sleek Design, Lightweight, Portable
Weaknesses:It's a bit pricey!
Overall Evaluation: This is an absolute MUST for everyone looking to get a new camera! ...BUT, the price is a little to high in my opinion, I never would have got one if I never got mine for FREE!. Luckily a friend recommended this website to me before I went and bought one: ---- www.cameras.justgetitfree.com ---- . I checked out the website, completed ONE simple offer and met the requirements to receive one for FREE, it arrived a month later in the post! It was also shown on BBC and CNN news!!

Strengths: this is the camera to get if you're stepping up to SLR from point & shoot. This camera is easy to operate, fits comfortably in your hand..takes great photos. Has helpful info you can view on lcd screen. this camera is simply the best for those who aren't sure about moving up to SLR camera....this is for you.
Weaknesses:the only feature i didn't like (but will live with) unlike my 2 previous point and shoot sony's...once you save & lock a photo to SD card.& later change your mind about keeping that shot..you cannot delete the locked saved photo until you reformatt your sd card. with my sony's i was able to unlock and delete without reformatting anything.
Overall Evaluation: You couldn't ask for better camera that takes wonderful photos for the price..and don't let the 6.1megapixels fool ya...that's more than enough for an 8x10 sized photo!

Strengths: Everything
Weaknesses:None that I can think of at this time
Overall Evaluation: D40 came out in 2006, and it was a great camera then and still is today. The first picture that I took was of professional standards. The colors were excellent, the lighting was great, and I had no complaint what so ever. I took a hand held picture and I like it some much, I had to see how far I could go in blowing it up. The size of the picture was 12X18. The picture was taken with the 18-55 mm lens. I have purchased the 55-200 mm lens with hood and I have not had to use it as of yet. I don't need anything bigger than that either. I like the action mood that can be used too and the quick return to flash, the camera offers. I would highly recommecd this camera to any and all of my friends.

Strengths: Great picture quality, VERY fast, great build quality, huge viewfinder, great features
Weaknesses:Only 6 megapixels
Overall Evaluation: This is a great camera. It takes great shots. It is so much faster than any compact camera I've used. With my previous compact camera I would have to wait over 4 seconds between shots with flash. With the D40, once you take the shot, it's ready for another one.The grip is large and well built. The kit lens is a little too lightweight in my opinion, but it's not that hard to get used to it.I was pleasantly surprised by the viewfinder. I was expecting it too be small and dark. It's actually very large and bright for a camera in its class. The only problem some people might have with the D40 is the fact that it's only 6 megapixels. If you need to print posters or crop your images a lot, you may need a 10 megapixel camera. Otherwise, this is a great entry-level DSLR.

Review:
Nikon D40
This well-crafted digital SLR offers high-end features and very good image quality at a low-end price.
A few years ago, $1000 was a critical price barrier for digital SLRs. Now, as interest in SLRs has grown among casual photographers, vendors have been racing to produce a $500 model. Though no camera has reachede that goal yet, Nikon's new D40 comes close. For $600, you get a very capable digital SLR camera with impressive image quality.
