Strengths: Excellent upscaller, ease of installation.

Weaknesses:Flimsy Disk Tray; remote extreamly difficult to read.

Overall Evaluation: Was able to hack my way through the setup without using the manual. The imagery is excellent. Wish they had made the remote easier to read with better contrast and larger fonts. Also, most of my other remote do not have codes for the Oppo.

    Strengths: DCDi faroudja chip,firmware upgrades

Weaknesses:remote! but not a big issue, gets pretty warm when playing movies.

Overall Evaluation: very impressed with this player has the same chip that the yamaha RX-Z9 flagship model has.(pissed off my friend who has it ha ha! he can,t upconvert dvd's to 1080 cause he doesn't have hdmi.)A true universal player, can't wait too see what the next oppo model bring(maybe a silicon optix chip!)pictures are sharp on 1080i. I can't wait to see what firmware upgrades comes out to even better improve this player.

Strengths: Root menu option. 720p 1080i 1080p Up-Conversion. Dolby Digital and DTS DCDi by Faroudja video processing technology. Plays DivX, XviD, HDCD, WMA, Kodak Picture CD and a bunch of other Media types.

    Weaknesses:none yet

Overall Evaluation: OPPO Brings New Life to your standard DVDs. I choose this DVD player based on it's features and options, I just love it! Even the little options and features make this player an even better DVD player than the rest. Like being able to put a DVD in the drive and skip right to the root menu to setup the DVDs options and play the movie with out all the previews etc. I knew when buying this DVD player it was HDMI output I had no problem connecting it to my HD projector and turning off the audio option on the HDMI output and using the Optical output for audio to the stereo. Setup was super easy! The remote works great and is loaded with features and options others don't have on there remotes. The OSD "On Screen Display" works great. I'm amazed at the picture quality of the up-conversion this DVD player provides. The other 2 up converting DVD players I had don't even come close to the quality of this oppo DVD player. I've tried a bunch of different types of media PAL NTSC and many others like DIVX XVID WMV etc. I've had no problems playing any media yet. The optical audio output sounds great DTS, Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro-Logic II and Linear PCM support! No problems playing 4:3 (standard) and 16:9 (wide-screen) DVDs. The adjustable video controls: Sharpness, Contrast, Brightness, and Saturation where set perfect out of the box no need for adjustment. I haven't played with the 3D Surround (Virtual Surround) audio options on the OSD: Concert, Live, Dance, Techno, Classic, Soft. Our stereo has these options. Other options that are very nice are the DVD tray is very strong and flexable it seems as though it won't ever break! "great news if you got kids" I have also found it super easy to browse photo Cd's and MP3 disc's. when watching a movie turning on/off the subtitles during movie is super easy just grab the remote and hit the button. same with changing a title or song on a CD or DVD CD you can skip right to the track you want. Tons of features & options awesome picture quality great audio! I highly recommend this OPPO DVD Player!

Strengths: slim profile, nice look, 1080p upconverting, multi-region,plenty of formats

Weaknesses:overheat, can be picky with the media, on-screen menu

Overall Evaluation: Generally is a very good unit that supports almost everything you can throw in. Quality of sound and picture is very good, nice up-converting to 1080p (most other do it to 1080i), easy setup (how hard can it be anyway). I found just a few weak parts and some of them are probably related to my particular unit. 1. The indicator's panel is a bit misaligned and bottom part of the symbols can be cut out of view under some angle. 2. Overheat. 3. The on-screen menu looks and feels very outdated. 4. Long names of the files are scrolling in a weird way. 5. Doesn't support other languages in file names.
