eVGA GeForce 8800 GTS Video Card

    Duration of ownership: 3 Months

Strengths: Good performer - better than the 7950 I owned for 3D applications (Maya) in terms of both rendering and an improvement in smoothness over the 7950.

Weaknesses:some corruption with playing quicktime movies under vista ( works ok when booted in XP) Vista drivers still flakey and hard to install and upgrade. Does not have full DX10.1 support

Overall Evaluation: Until Nvidia produce a clear statement on DX10.1 and 8800 series cards I would not recommend buying any curent 88 series card unless its really cheap. This probably applies to current ATI cards as well but i'm not familiar with them It looks like new hardware may be required even if they use the same GPU for DX10.1. Nvidia will argue that most of the DX10 features are there but if I had known that DX10.1 would obsolete the card I would have kept using the 7950 and waited.

Strengths: 640mb RAM, directX10 capable, great performance

    Weaknesses:None

Overall Evaluation: Second best video card on the market today next to the 8800GTX and more than $200 cheaper. It runs any video game I have with no problems while all the settings turned all the way up. I recommend this card to everyone who doesn't want to shell out $500+ on the GTX.

    Strengths: super fast at 1920x1200

Weaknesses:use a lot of power and gets warm

Overall Evaluation: I just got this video card and a 24" LCD with resolution of 1920 x 1200 and I can play games and watch movies with no problem. Just make sure you have a big power unit, lot of space and good ventilation. Overall it is a best value for the performance.

Strengths: Best bang for buck as of right now (Apr-2008).

Weaknesses:Very large card. Requires 2 large connector power supply connections (like from CD drives and hard drives).

Overall Evaluation: I just installed this into my Dell Dimension 5150. Originally I had a Radeon X300 card PCIe card. When I opened my system, I looked at the new card and knew there'd be a problem. To get it to fit I had to remove the video card's retaining bracket (the piece that you screw the card to the case). I'm hoping the tension of the card's connector in the socket on my motherboard will be enough to hold it in place, but there's not much room for the card to move around anyway. The second thing I had to do was remove the plastic housing holding the CPU heatsink in place and break off about a third of it so the card could fit. I know that it would be a better idea to get a larger case but I am really cheap and wanted a couple quick upgrades (this card for $130 and a couple gb of ram for $50) so that I could play Oblivion, Mass Effect, and maybe a couple of other Xbox 360 ports instead of spending over twice as much for the system.Otherwise, the card runs great. I can run all the games I want according to yougamers.com (although I haven't installed any yet). The 4 stars instead of the 5 is for the gigantomousness of the card, although it appears that most cards in this class are behemothlike.

    Strengths: Lower priceOverclockablePowerful Performance

    Weaknesses:NA

Overall Evaluation: It is really a solid card I have ever used. Its performance is so powerful that it can play any game I want to run, even without overclocking. In addition, its own fan is enough to dispel the heat under normal working status. Maybe you need to add another fun, if it keeps working at harsh condition. Last, the price keep decreasing, so that I cannot help buying this card.
