Thanks to its 400MHz processor and 128MB standard RAM (expandable to 1GB), now you can enjoy these incredible speeds. Meanwhile, this printer features a maximum 600 x 600 dpi resolution for exceptional quality, and its duty cycle reaches 60,000 pages per month, so you don't have to worry about overworking it.You'd expect to find such high performance in complicated machines, but the 6180/N is easy to use. Its standard 10/100BaseTX Ethernet capability includes plug-and-print drivers, and easy auto-install puts color on your network immediately. The Phaser 6180/N uses PostScript 3 and PCL 6 emulations with automatic sensing and switching. In addition, you'll love the enhanced tools, such as Covers, Fit-to-page, Separator pages and Watermarks.The 6180/N gives you unparalleled printing flexibility. Not only does it come with a standard input capacity of 400 sheets, you can add an optional 550 sheet tray for 950 page printing. Plus, print on a variety of media types ranging in size up to legal. Its optional duplex unit allows you to print two-sided documents.

  Duration of ownership:

  Strengths: Warms up quickly, print quality is outstanding

  Weaknesses:Tray for envelopes and odd-size papers does not work well. The toner is very expensive, and the printer is exceptionally large and heavy.

  Overall Evaluation: For an office printer, this is a very efficient printer and a good value. While not a true photo printer, the photos and graphics in memos and brochures look great. Because of its size and weight, it requires a sturdy table or desk, but it has been a dependable printer. Our office is purchasing another one. The weight, size, and expense of toner are the factors that disqualify the printer from a 5-star rating.

Xerox Phaser 6180/N

The Phaser 6180/N does better at printing text than photos.

The $499 (as of March 7, 2007) Xerox Phaser 6180/N bears a distinct resemblance to the Dell Laser Printer 3110cn. Both models have the same towerlike design that leaves a very small footprint, and both have a single-pass vertical paper path. They're essentially the same printer, but the quality of Xerox's support and documentation may lead you to prefer the 6180/N.
