    Duration of ownership: 3 Months

Strengths: Space saver, Progressive playback (DVD), Plays any DVD format, Hi-Fi Stereo (VHS), easy setup and timer programming. Strong motor

    Weaknesses:Remote buttons are small

Overall Evaluation: I'm not a fan of component (2 in 1), but it takes little space in the bedroom. We still have VHS tapes and the DVD library is growing. I still tape programs and I like the idea of 8 or 9 Hour tape speed and it seems that Sony machines can record and play these size tapes consistantly. With more tape on the spool its heavier and it takes a srong motor to keep the picture steady. I always thought it was bad tracking with other players. At $79, it's e-recyclable. I've had Sonys before and if no one tries to put a PBJ sandwich in it, they last.

    Duration of ownership: 2 Weeks

    Strengths: Price/value

Weaknesses:Difficult to read the print on the actual unit (dark print on black background)

Overall Evaluation: This is a decent basic combo deck for a good price. Only complaint is that it's hard to read the print on the unit (dark on dark), but this isn't much of an issue since you're using the remote 99% of the time.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Good price; easy setup; replaces two component elements with one; CD/DVD and tape player work well.

Weaknesses:Power shuts off randomly; rear connections faulty; remote control lacks distinction.

Overall Evaluation: I will be returning this unit hoping it is just a lemon and that the replacement will work better. This would be an excellent device without the bugs. It's very convenient to have a VCR and DVD player in the same unit. I still have lots of tapes I want to view from time to time, even though I rarely buy or record a new one. The remote control, however, is small and cluttered and most of the buttons look and feel the same so it is hard to use by by touch alone.
