Strengths: This laptop has a large bright screen, and keyboard is easy to use. It has lots of storage and is good for students.
Weaknesses:I used the opitical drive initially when I brought the laptop, tried to use it again about 4mths later and it would not recognize a cd or dvd. Call Toshiba non-support and was told to send it in for repair. A mth and 5 days later all seemed to be well, but alas for only 1 day. Now it played the cd for a minute or so, then no sound followed by no activity on the drive again. Called non-support, was told to send it in for repair again.
Overall Evaluation: Stay away from any Toshiba unless you are going to by a replacement warranty from where you buy, because you will use it. Support is not help, as you probably know as much as they do as they read from their script.

Strengths: Good screen, large hard drive, adequate performance on standard tasks.
Weaknesses:Locks up often at shutdown after having been placed in "suspend" mode earlier in a session. Lots of "craplet" software, most of it trial versions that continue trying to sell you upgrades - the McAfee 30 day security software slows it down and they never give up trying to sell you a full price subscription for $79? Get real!
Overall Evaluation: Slim, reasonably light, and well priced at $600 (after a rebate). It works well for internet browsing. Windows Vista is a definite pain - it crashes more often than it should and seems unfinished in places.

Duration of ownership: 2 Weeks
Strengths: -screen, resolution. -sound -memory -hard drive
Weaknesses:-battery life ( it isn't horriable, 6 out of 10) Window's Vista
Overall Evaluation: This is a fantastic laptop for a new laptop owner or student. It has a great size screen, and a very economic price. It easilly connects to Wi-Fi for wireless internet connections. It is very easy to use, and very portable. There is one minor problem. Windows Vista doesnt currently support many older programs, including the ones from XP. So, if one has anything that they would want to transfer into the laptop, make sure it is compatible with Window's Vista.

Strengths: Wireless out of the box. Big screen with the hard lens protection. Plenty of HDD space, loaded out of the box.
Weaknesses:No bluetooth, Slow boot,
Overall Evaluation: I bought mine probably back in May of 07 for around $600. I bought mine at circuit city and had them do the optimization. (clean up of all those pesky loaded programs) I'll pay someone that way if they mess up and delete something they shouldn't its they're fault and they can fix it. The screen is big and in widescreen format with a hard shell protector that prevents you from wrecking the lcd display with but touching it. (like when you touch a calculator screen. I converted to wireless and used this to replace a damaged HP (fell off the couch and broke the LCD screen) and a desktop. I don't do any gaming on it so it suit my purposes perfectly. I've loaded over 125 cd's and hundreds of pictures on it and still have 75G of harddrive space left. The Nuetrals: I've read complaints about the battery I tend to plug mine in at home, so I havn't noticed too much of an issue with the battery life but I do think 2 hours is a little on the low side. Slow boot. I know why it takes awhile because it does a complete memory scan. I recommend using the sleep option when you can. mine restarts instantly when I do this. Sometimes though at night when its real quite I can hear the fan clicking on and I'll do a full power down though. Wireless G. its good but I run a Linksys WRT300N I connect on average at 52MBPS which isn't obviously the full capability of the N. But G works fine usually sometimes it won't recognize my router however or say I'm connected with limited connectivity. I usually turn off the wireless switch on the front and that typically solves the problem. (this may be because the router is an N) The negatives (or what I'd like to see) Bluetooth. would be awesome for VIOP or internet gaming. I've had one major issue with my laptop I left it out in my car overnight on a cold night when I started it up the next morning indoors. I received a corrupt drive notice after a few days of fiddling with it and talking to tech support on the phone I got the laptop working again however I no longer have access to the Windows media center can't play any of my music and lost some pictures. This very well may be my fault (condensation on the hdd maybe?) So the solution is instead of paying best Buy 80 bucks for a back up I found an awesome deal at CC and purchased a 320G My book external harddrive. With back up the important data on that and do a system restore with the restore disk that comes with it. Hope this helps other informed consumers

Duration of ownership: 5 Months
Strengths: Fast, lightweight, easy to use, lots of programs
Weaknesses:No battery life
Overall Evaluation: I never owned a laptop before and had no idea what to look for. I basically just use word processing programs, surf the internet, and download an occasional movie to watch. I have no idea if 1.5 hours is good or bad for battery life, especially for a new laptop. Fully charged, I might just be surfing online while downloading a program, with WORDPAD open to copy and paste an occasional item in, so is 1.5 hours bad
