  Duration of ownership:

  Strengths: Batch processing, easy to change white balance and tone

  Weaknesses:Takes time to learn for a novice

  Overall Evaluation: I would consider myself a novice to SLR photography. I recently bought a Pentax k100d and a few lenses mainly to photograph my new born baby. Very soon I have hundreds of photos to deal with. As I read a bit on the web to learn how to organize my photos, a lot of people were suggesting lightroom. As I work at a University, I could get this software at the educational discount price and so decided to give it a try. I bought Scott Kelby's book on Lightroom to learn its features. I have learnt only a few features of this software like adding tags, white balance, adjusting tone etc. Since I bought this software I am taking pictures exclusively in RAW which is helping me to better my photos a lot as I keep making mistakes in exposure and white balance when I take the picture. With lightroom it is very easy to fix these usual flaws. Moreover, if I have taken a bunch of photos with the same setting in the same lighting situation, it is very easy to apply the same corrections to all my photos saving a lot of time. I am sure there are a lot more features that professionals use in this software. But, even for the novice, it is a very useful tool. Only drawback is that if you have not used any serious photo editing software earlier, it will take some time to learn. But, this should not be a real weakness with the software, it is a user limitation. Overall, even if your are just a casual photographer this software will be quite useful.
