Strengths: hmdi up converting.cost
Weaknesses:heating.volume scale seems not conventional
Overall Evaluation: this is the first receiver I bought. It works properly with all the functioned I tested. But the volume scale seems strange. I need to increase the volume >50 just for a low volume audio. I first thought my item has defects because I increased the volume to 20 but didn't hear anything. Later I did some research, seems it is normal for this receiver. It is also hot if you used for just half an hour. Although it does not affect the AV output, it still makes me feel the receiver is not best engineered.

Strengths: 2 HDMI - upconverting, great sound, easy setup
Weaknesses:limited upscale on all sources, basic remote, upconverts to 720p not 1080p
Overall Evaluation: Purchased to upgrade from my Sony. This, by far, was a great investment. HDMI 1.3 inputs, great quality, amazing sound. Highly recommended for home theater 7.1 surround sound.

Strengths: SR605 has every option you could want for an under $400 receiver. Satellite radio, AM & FM, all the surround options. Most importantly, it has Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD lossless capabilities!
Weaknesses:Does get hot as a lot of reviews have indicated. Universal remote not the best. More complicated set-up.
Overall Evaluation: Overall, this was an incredible buy for my economical home theater. I purchased teh sr605 mainly because it has the HD sound options, which my PS3 supports with its Blu-Ray player. The video pass-through from HDMI to HDMI looks seamless to me. I have heard the video upconversion is have not noticed it or even used any components where I would. I picked this receiver over the Samsung AS720HTiB, which was my original choice. Aesthetically, the Samsung looked great with my TV, but lacked some many options this receiver contains. Namely, satellite radio, AM, iPod capability, and HD sound. I will eventually get a Logitech Harmony Universal remote, as this one is not the easiest to use. Also, probably should either get a small fan to keep it cool if you place it in a closed cabinet.

Strengths: Not so different from earlier 600 series ones, except HDMI
Weaknesses:just 2 HDMI in, and 2 optical in. Remote is back to basic, without the macros.
Overall Evaluation: Its ok for this price. But 705 has much better features.I dont like the remote. They wantedly cut down the features of remote. The 603x I had before, had more better remote, which they are only offering with 705. This doesnt have fans to cool down the box. No THX.

Strengths: small footprint, nice looking, enough power, eq2 calibration, enough inputs and outputs, future proof, slick design, really nice overall, lossless sound (hd audio) decoding
Weaknesses:video up-conversion to 720p only, no multiEQ, no cooling fans
Overall Evaluation: nice receiver, i paired it with an Infinity tss-1200 speaker package, and it just sounds really phenomenal. i live in an apartment, and did not do the audyssey equalization, but just hooking it up it sounds good. it is well built, it does get warm but nothing like anything else. i wish it had some cooling fans, but it is no complaint. i used the stock wires that came with the speakers, but i recommend buying thicker wires, like 16 or 12 gauge. as i mentioned before, i live in an apartment, but i cannot wait to get a house and test this baby to it's full potential. got it at 6th avenue electronics for 285 bucks brand new. what more would you want? best receiver for the money. Also, only has two hdmi inputs, but how many hdmi sources do you have? a hi-def palyer and that is it (i do not have any game console, so i do not need more than 2). highly recommended
