Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Display Adapter

    Duration of ownership: 2 Days

    Strengths: None

    Weaknesses:Didn't work

Overall Evaluation: At least one vendor is substituting a 3 inch Mini-DVI to-DVI cable plus a DVI-to-VGA adapter on orders for this cable. I tried connecting this combination between an iMAC and an SVGA monitor. The iMAC detected the monitor but the screen stayed dark. Tried other monitors (IBM, Compaq)- same problem. I replaced the cable with one purchased from an Apple store and had no problems with any of the monitors.

    Duration of ownership:

    Strengths: It works

Weaknesses:It's a little too short and requires your monitor to be in very close proximity to your MacBook, cable came without any directions for adjusting your "Displays" preferences.

Overall Evaluation: I think the comment made prior to mine was more a slight against the website's staff for not placing the correct photo or description of the cable, and not the cable itself. I bought this for my MacBook, use it every day, it seems to be doing its job, and is easy to install. I have it hooked up to a Samsung 20" 204B monitor with no issues. This is a cable, folks, it either works or it doesn't. Simple as that.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Should work fine and go to five stars ... once I get the correct connector for my MacBook to Samsung VGA cable!

Weaknesses:Apple site and this site has inadequate or misinformation

Overall Evaluation: The picture on this product is the DVI to VGA (VGA is also known as sub-d). It is NOT the mini-DVI to VGA. Also, the mini-DVI end of cable is female, and male is the MacBook connection with pins. Apple site has no picture, no mention of how many pins VGA has.
