Duration of ownership: 90 Days

Strengths: Highly ultra portable, intuitive soft keyboard, bright TFT screen, and decent battery life (mine lasts 4hrs)

Weaknesses:Awkward built-in keypad

Overall Evaluation: I have this tablet for more than 3 months, and I am very pleased with its portability everywhere I use, airport, restaurant and starbuck etc I can immediately go online, do basic document processing and kill time while waiting for my long flight. The tablet came with vista system which consumes a lot of ram, so I downgraded to WinXP and upgraded to 2GB of Ram, now it runs like a charm.

Strengths: Coolness Factor; Crisp Screen

Weaknesses:Vista; sluggish; no bluetooth; overpriced

Overall Evaluation: I picked this up on a whim when it was on sale. I didn't really need it, but thought it would be cool to have on the couch and around the house. A problem I had before making the purchase was documentation! There was very little on this product, and how to differentiate the various models. Some had XP, others Vista. Only one-digit difference would indicate which one it was. The other knock is that this is the starter model in the series, so it does *not* have bluetooth as you see in some datasheets, nor does it have the ability to hook it up to a cellular wireless carrier. But with those knocks, it's fun to have. Everybody who comes to the house immediately gravites to it on the couch. It only has vista, which is ok for me, as there really are no driver issues (yet), as it has everything built in. It's not the fastest as well.

Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Size, weight, touchscreen, battery life, plenty of connector options.

Weaknesses:Only 1Gb memory

Overall Evaluation: I love this unit. It made my life a lot easier. I need to support production systems on the road and paired with CDMA modem this unit gives me all portability and flexibility that I need. You need to upgrade memory to 2Gb. You have to disassemble unit if you decide to do so.

Duration of ownership: 9 Weeks

Strengths: Crisp high resolution 7" LCD; built-in thumb keyboard; full Vista PC at only 1.5 lbs.

Weaknesses:Weak CPU; very slow if Vista is not tweaked to optimize performance; thumb keyboard is a bit difficult to use; lack of screen cover for protection during transportation.

Overall Evaluation: The Vista version of Q1u is so slow that it is almost unuseable at first. Therefore, the first thing everyone has to do is to remove the bloated preinstalled brand M Internet Security. And then Vista could be tweaked to turn off many unimportant overhead features to speed up its response time. Although not officially supported, the Q1u could be easily upgraded to 2 GB of RAM to further improve Vista performance. I also notice that loading the new Vista SP1 does make Vista run much faster. At the end, I have a very useable responsive 7" UMPC with full Vista OS weighted at only 1.5 lbs. Adding an Igo ultra-slim bluetooth keyboard, I could use all business application software and type e-mail as fast as any regular full size notebook and desktop PC. The Q1u strengths as a portable video player and an in-car GPS navigation system make the unit stand out from any bulky larger size notebooks.

Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Not ll suppliers are selling the the machine advertised as the "Ultra."

Weaknesses:The Ultra should come with Windows Vista Home and a 60gig HD.

Overall Evaluation: Several suppliers listed as giving the "Lowest Price" for the Samsung Q1 Ultra are actually NOT selling the Ultra, but rather the Q1 EL, a different machine with different operating system and only a 4ogig HD.
