Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Cheap after rebate.

Weaknesses:8mb cache

Overall Evaluation: Bought it with a rebate. Quite cheap compared to other brand. This drive is quite fast and a little hot. Only concern is it has 5 plates. That might be old technology.

Duration of ownership: 2 Months

Strengths: Cheap. 3-year Warranty

Weaknesses:Hot. Heavy Due to the five 80 gb platters. Not SATA-II

Overall Evaluation: If you can get this drive at a cheap price, it's good to buy. However, this drive is made by old technology. It has five 80 gb platters. (These days, some companyies use 160 gb paltters) It's hotter and heavier than other drives.

Duration of ownership: 1 Weeks

Strengths: Good brand, large capacity

Weaknesses:Runs hot, May be incompatable with some SATA controllers due to "SSC" (Spread Spectrum Clocking)!

Overall Evaluation: I bought this to put in my Compaq sr1710nx desktop computer. Unfortunately it would not boot up at all when this drive was put in the machine. After much frustration, I called Hitachi and learned that some of the earlier part numbers of this drive have their SSC setting enabled with no way to shut it off (no jumper or software/firmware setting). If your SATA controller does not support SSC, then such a drive will not function for you. I had to return the drive for refund. The moral of the story is to know if your SATA controller supports SSC, know the specific part number for your drive and see if its SSC setting can be disabled if necessary.

Duration of ownership:

Strengths: fast. quite. backed with 3 year warranty.

Weaknesses:drive is little ware/hot. only sata-150.

Overall Evaluation: had the drive about 2 month now just wish this drive can be sata300 and 16mb to boost up the performance! otherwise the 3-year warranty are great for a long-run!

Overall Evaluation: I got it few month ago working perfect so far. no complain about this. also very quite than my primary WD SATA hard drive. I am very happy with huge space drive.
