    Duration of ownership: 2 Weeks

Strengths: Small and easy to carry around.

    Weaknesses:None

Overall Evaluation: I bought the locator 2 weeks ago. So far it has worked fine. It looks a bit cheap but it is pretty reliable. It would be great if it would show open hotspots but it doesn't. You have to get a better model for about double the price for such an option. It looks very much like a car alarm fob. I believe the package mentioned also that it shows the signal direction but I couldn't find such an option. Only way is to try it at a few locations and compare strength.

    Duration of ownership: 4 Days

Strengths: With the push of a button you can tell if there is a Wi-Fi signal near by. No need to fire up the lap top and waste precious battery life.

Weaknesses:I noticed several times, when I was connected wirelessly, that the signal locator did NOT detect a Wi-Fi signal. Also you can not determine if the signal is secure or not.

Overall Evaluation: I purchased this items to bring with me on my cross country bicycle ride. I was hoping that it would save me from having to fire up the lap top to see if there were signals in the area. After a short time I found that I seldom ever used the signal locator. There were just to many places advertising "FREE WiFi" to even bother searching for it.

    Duration of ownership: 1 Weeks

Strengths: Works as advertised, small and lightweight

Weaknesses:Can not distinguish secure from open wireless networks

Overall Evaluation: It does what it says which is great by me.I know about how far my home network goes and when it begins to peter out from having walked around with my laptop previously. This device has five LEDs which indicate whether there is an 811.11 b/g wireless network and its relative strength. The indication is right on the money. My network is secure, but you wouldn't know that from this device 'til you tried to log on and found out you had to buy your own internet service. I have a PDA (a Palm TX) which can log onto 811.11 b/g networks, even secure ones if one happens to know the key. This small, lightweight device, which is about 2 1/4 x 1 3/16 x 7/16 and weighs about 20 grams, will indicate where the networks are. Larger, more expensive devices can tell you the name of the network and whether it is secure. I was not about to lay out $50 or more for a device the size of my PDA to let me know a secure or open wireless network was around. My PDA does that. This device fills a niche. If this is what you need, consider getting this one. It works.

    Duration of ownership: 7 Months

    Strengths: Small and Compact

    Weaknesses:Cheaply manufactured

Overall Evaluation: I have used this item with only marginal effectiveness. The locater often indicates the presence of wireless access when actually there is only cable. When the batteries were replaced after using for 6 months, the locater would not work. When comparing the locater with the strength indicator on my laptop, the laptop seems to clearly be more accurate.

    Duration of ownership: 1 Weeks

Strengths: Accurately detects signal and strength of wi-fi signal, size (fits on keychain)

Weaknesses:Does not detect whether it is an open or secured network

Overall Evaluation: I now carry the wi-fi signal locator on my keychain. This detects wi-fi signals, but it doesn't indicate whether they are open or secured networks. So far, that is the only downside. I really like the size and so far it has detected numerous wi-fi networks.
