    Duration of ownership: 3 Days

Strengths: Great picture quality from high resolution sources, Ethernet capabilities, 64MB internal memory.

    Weaknesses:Big

Overall Evaluation: Better features than my older PhotoSmart 7960. It has slightly better print quality but color printing speeds are about the same. The 8450 can be networked via Ethernet connection and has a built in 64MB vice 16MB memory. This extra memory allows you to send multiple jobs to the printer's queue minimizing computer freeze up. Overall a great printer for amateur photo enthusiast.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Good printing quality, easy installation, easy operation

Weaknesses:Slow speed in high resolution, ink expensive

Overall Evaluation: This printer is a very good one for printing photos. It's printing quality is very good at high resolution, however that is at the cost of slow speed. Operation is intuitive. The bundled software is very useful. Ink is expensive -- like other similar products.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: memory card slots, improved lcd from previous model, printhead on cartridge

Weaknesses:No two sided duplex printing cartridge as well as a USB cable included in the retail box.

Overall Evaluation: More internal memory helps to manage photos quicker when using as a standalone. Great Price for this model according to its ability. Use the new Vivera inks because they last longer.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Pict-bridge, memory card slots, decent lcd, printhead on cartridge.

Weaknesses:Larger than typical home inkjets, HP doesn't include usb cable, only a 7-ink printer, printhead on cartridge.

Overall Evaluation: First thing i noticed after opening the cardboard box was, wow, this is larger than what i had expected. Our previous inkjet printer was the HP 720c, it's circa 1998 yet it's noticably smaller. I guess the HP 72x series was a typical home inkjet, while the 8450 was originally marketed to the photo enthusiast crowd. The biggest reason we bought it was, it costed only $100 US at Staples on Black Friday 2005. Back in 1998 we spent over $200 on the 720c, and that was a good deal back then. So basically this is our modern day color printer, and for $100 i think we made the right buy. It does 4x6 and 5x7 photos, also borderless 8.5x11 color prints. I know, there are better enthusiast photo printers. But at what cost? Definitely not $100. The way i look at it is we bought a $100 printer that happens to do color photos better than other $100 printers. This printer is one of the last models to have the printhead on the ink cartridges, which is a good thing for consumers. But bad for HP, cost more to produce, etc. So HP will no doubt advertise against it, older tech, etc. But as mentioned in another online review, it's good for the consumer, because if the printhead clogs up, just buy a new cartridge and problem solved. The not so good thing about printhead on cartridges is that the whole cartridge moves when it's printing. Creating a somewhat rough shaking/vibrating force. Not a nice feeling when it's shaking your whole desk and monitor. And why doesn't HP include usb cables anyway? Did they forget to outsource these? Anyway, if you ask me, it's a great printer for pragmatists. Even if the colors aren't the most accurate. Because that's why you have photoshop in the first place, to get the end result you want from the tools you have.
