Strengths: Sleek design, easy to use and setup

Weaknesses:Too many programs associated with teh scanner, I have 7-8 new icons of which I certainly don't need all of

Overall Evaluation: Its a great scanner, works nicely, good quality. Scans both film and prints. Film: 35mm, and medium format. It's a very good price for a good quality scanner, highly rated by Consumer Reports as well.

Strengths: Very fast, high-quality scans, free Photoshop elements

Weaknesses:MP Navigator Software (for scanning) not user-friendly

Overall Evaluation: I bought this scanner mainly for photo, negative and slide scanning. It does all of this very well. However, it took a while to figure out the software. Two 4X6 photos are scanned in about 15 seconds at 300 dpi. Negatives are scanned in about one minute each at 1200 dpi, at 2400 dpi it takes about two and a half minutes each. It is very convenient to load 12 negatives and scan them all in one shot. The negative loading tray works quite well. Of course, scanning at 2400 dpi, 12 negatives will need about 30 minutes. But, 1200 dpi should be enough to get good 4X6 prints. Negative scans look better than 4X6 photo scans. A Black&White scan needs to be made brighter in PhotoShop elements before getting a good printout. Same while using the copy function (brightness should be increased). All in all, an excellent scanner. I am giving it 4 stars only because the MP Navigator software and the manual could have been better. If you wish to do all your scanning from Photoshop elements, this may not matter.

Strengths: Quick warm up time, Quality Scans, Ease of Use, & Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 included!

    Weaknesses:None so far

Overall Evaluation: My old scanner would not work with my Xp PC. I did a lot of research on Epson and Canon to decide which scanner would work best to digitize my 35mm slides and negatives. Based on the price, features and reviews, I decided to go with the Canon. I have scanned hundreds of slides and pictures so far and I am very pleased with the results. The slide guide works great and allows up to 4 slides at a time. I preview the slides (photos or negatives), make a few adjustments for fading, scratches, etc., select scan, and presto, digital pictures! I love it.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Extremely fast, LED technology, Zero warm-up time, high quality scans

    Weaknesses:None

Overall Evaluation: When I purchased a new computer I found that my old scanner was not compatible with the newer operating system. I researched what was on the market and found this model was the replacement for another Canon that one multiple editor's choice awards from respected publications. As soon as I could find one, I grabbed it. I never regretted it. This Canon gives new meaning to the word fast. It uses LED lighting as opposed to a bulb, as tradition scanners have used. For this reason, there is no warm-up time and it is ready to go when you are. The internal mechanisms are also very fast. It is able to do high quality scans in a fraction of the time it took my former high-end scanner to do. The bundled software is decent as well. It includes drivers and applications for both PC and Mac. My system is a Mac Pro and I run Windows Vista as well as OS X with this scanner. It offers the ability of taking paper content direct to PDF files as well. Overall this scanner is a winner. I am a pretty picky person and the image and text quality if provides are respectable.

Strengths: Fast, worth the hype, SHARP 35mm.

    Weaknesses:Size-read further...

Overall Evaluation: This thing is all that you hear it is. The only problem is the size, but it delivers with large sized scans. Very lean piece of equipment for the size, so it delivers. Made me realize how scratched my negatives were. Does a good job of cleaning them up though. It won\\\'t lie, so if the film is bad, it can only do so much and not look fake. I have been looking at film scanners for a couple of years now, mainly Nikon. I am a Canon man and glad I stayed the path.
