    Strengths: well its running

Weaknesses:copying discs at 8x only. (with 8x media I thought it went faster? didn't depend on media? or so I thought they claimed)

Overall Evaluation: Got mine at Mwave put it in using my old reliable Nero start smart ver 6 I think. worked fine but no options for a higher than 8x dl speed. So using included program for live firmware update which took a long time it found no compatible firmware? Trying to use newer nero to see more speed (nope!) made me remove the old nero (which was great)for a new one without burn speeds slower than 8x ?! (with 8x media) and it just made its first coaster after 2 good ones..makes you go back for a new project instead of letting you change image folder and drive aarrgghh!?! Hoping I can delete this suite and find and install old one again (pretty good for two hours work). Not happy with drive or software so far. Anybody burning at 16x dl? Does it have to have 16x media to speed up?

Overall Evaluation: superior drive for the price.. And fast service from zipzoomfly. Serial ata is a big plus, responce time is great. Most venders will ship this drive with out box, and possible with out software. However you can down it at support page..

Strengths: -Price for a SATA Drive this is Great-SATA (as IDE ports are getting harder to come by)-Nero Version 7 Software (not newest but-Driver CD includes Samsungs ODD (optical disk drives) software upd

Weaknesses:-Drive Shipped with latest firmware yet I am unable to install windows XP Pro Sp-1 or Sp-2 with it (XP 64 Pro installed fine??)-Poor support from Samsung

Overall Evaluation: These are not HAPPY comments and they are coming from someone who called themselves a Samsung Fanboy until recently!I own five [19" Samsung monitors 914v,930b(two of these),931B,931BF] and more than a handful of DVD drives & burners at least 8.(EDIT: I purchased mine from Newegg OEM (Unlike other reporter it DID COME with SOFTWARE & ODD FIRMWARE SOFTWARE, just no SATA CABLE)! ------FYI-------I am using this drive in a new build. I could not install Operating System. Using XP Pro SP-1 CD @ 58% of file copying it started sticking on files (unable to find) (I tried this multiple times) & no matter what, always got stuck on the same files. I tried skipping (going on without installing the files) but after 40 files skipped I was still only at 70% complete on the installation. Windows XP has enough problems without skipping ????? files in the installation. I thought it might have been the disk, so I tried XP Pro SP-2; The drive would only report an error unable to detect system settings before beg.?? (New build so I thought it might be Mobo BIOS...but strangely enough it loaded XP pro 64 Bit edition (2003 server edition?) with no problems. So I did that and went in search of updates to fix the problem.I updated the Mobo's BIOS, then checked for Firmware update for this drive using ODD, but I already have/had the latest firmware installed. The drive is NOT COMPLETELY USELESS, I was able 2 load all software & drivers for Mobo, graphics cards, everything else w/the drive, but I can't overlook whatever is wrong...they need to address it in a firmware I bought this drive in August 2007 (still no updates).I temporarily dropped in an IDE cable & an IDE Samsung drive (Installed XP Pro Sp-1 - ZERO PROBLEMS (SAME DISK AS BEFORE) So I know it is a problem with this drive. I am not the only one that has been unable to install XP but has been able to use the drive once installed by other means.

Strengths: This drive has it all. Quiet, fast and affordable. Easy to install. Hopefully it will last the longest, only time will tell.

    Weaknesses:none

Overall Evaluation: First, get the sb01 firmware off rpc1.org; Works without a hitch. Got it to replace another Dell supplied OEM drive that was supposed to support dual layer DVDs--Maxell 2.4x but read as 4.0x--however, would not write successfully. Same media would burn well at 2.4x with same version of Nero on different burner.

Strengths: Fast and quiet, works great, cheap

    Weaknesses:None

Overall Evaluation: Upgrade my DVD-ROM to DVD Burner several days ago. This is the first time I use a DVD burner. But definitely I love it, so fast and quiet. I tried several types of DVD+R, DVD-R and CD-R media, no problem at all. And it's cheap.
