    Duration of ownership: 3 Months

Strengths: Good acoustics, can have rich deep sound, easy to setup, aesthetically pleasing style will blend in with most flat screen setups

Weaknesses:you may have to rearrange furniture to achieve maximum surround sounds, it is still a simulation and sometimes you don't get as deep a sound as you may expect

Overall Evaluation: I first discovered this system when visiting a friends house. I did not realize his setup was this but we were watching a movie and I was sitting in a chair by the wall. I kept looking behind me for the speaker because I kept hearing sounds behind me. When I asked my friend he said there are no surround speakers - what I'm hearing is reverberations that simulate surround. I was very impressed and immediately went out to buy this for myself. This was an extremely easy setup - the instructions are clean and simple and you are provided with a microphone that you set at your normal listening level (I set mine on my couch) and then you tell the yamaha to do a sound check and you leave the room while the system sends signals and sounds into the room for the microphone to detect. As the microphone detects the sounds reaching it, it gives feedback from the system to know how to set up various distances for each speaker. You can do all this manually or make changes after you've set it but I left mine with the auto setup program. You have several types of inputs for various equipments. I use my DVD player (coaxial input), Wii (analog input), XBox 360 (optical input), and of course my TV (analog input) all plugged directly into my Yamaha. I have one input left that I have not used and that is another optical input - however that is named "TV" same as the analog input "TV" so you have to choose one or the other to use and cannot use both at one time. My TV only has optical output for HD channels and I don't have full HD on all my channels plus I have my PS2 sound going through my TV so this extra optical output is not being used right now. After my first setup of the system I felt that the sound was not feeling rich/deep enough for my test movie sound of Jurassic Park (great DVD to use for testing your sound after setup by the way during the first T-Rex Scene) - so I had to move a piece of furniture that was causing the sound on the right side of the room to not be as effective as it could. Once I moved the table, and reran the setup program the sound was much improved. I have been very happy with the sound on this system and even more happy with not having to deal with wires across my room to accomodate surround speakers behind me and having a cleaner looking tv area without so many wires. I purchased a 100W subwoofer and that does a good job - however if you are big on your sound systems I would suggest a higher wattage but I was bound by cost for my choice. I would definitely NOT go with lower than 100W or I suspect you will not be as pleased with you new system.

    Duration of ownership: 5 Days

Strengths: Ease of setup, avoids running wires or trying to get power outlets near wireless speaker

Weaknesses:Has so many functuions it can be intimidating trying to figure it out, would be better if input designations were more flexable

Overall Evaluation: The manual setups on this thing can be quite involved, I'm sticking with the automatic settings which took about 5 min from the time I turned it on and plugged in the mic until such time as I'm willing to experiment. Wish the input labels were generic allowing the user to create, totally, input names. Currently has assigned names that map to the names on the remote. They can be changed on the display but then don't match the name on the remote. Minor whine but as technically advanced as this unit is I was kind of surprised at this lack of flexability..

Strengths: Very easy to set up. You'll be listening to surround sound 10 minutes after you pull it out of the box. There are tons of presets that you can work with to get the best sound based on the media

Weaknesses:the cables in the box suck. That is to be expected, but if you're going to maximize this machine, go buy a better optical cable.

Overall Evaluation: I was suprised at how solid this thing felt. Definately not a hollow speaker box. You're getting a solid product for your money. There seems to be alot of manual adjustments that can be made. I look forward to tweaking this thing to make it even better. However, right out of the box sounded pretty darn good. One downside is that you have to go to a seperate screen to make adjustments. This will take a little more time than if you could adjust while watching a movie because it's going to take a lot more trial and error. The sniper shot in Bourne Identity made half the people in the room jump out of their chair and the chase scene had everyone on the edge of their seat. There are several TV surround settings as well. These allow you to get a decent amount of surround from a stereo signal. Nice feature, but DVD's will always be king on this machine. All in all, this a great way to get surround sound without running a ton of wires around the room. If I was building a brand new home, I'd probably run the wires before drywalling, but if you're like me, and you're house is done, this beats the heck out of tripping over wires and sounds a hell of a lot better than more expensive 5.1 wireless systems that I shopped.

Strengths: There are a lot of things this unit will do, we've just barely scratched the surface. The sound is very nice. Nice not to have lots of speakers all around the room.

Weaknesses:Instructions for getting the TV to do the setup were not very clear.

Overall Evaluation: For people who are not technically adept, the instructions were a little vague, but the quality (once installation & set up is complete) is awesome. I would definitely recommend this product based on it's quality.
