Strengths: Good audio/sound quality, Small shape & size like a cell phone, Bright display screen, Intuitive navigation menu, FM tuner, Good battery life.
Weaknesses:No memory stick expansion.
Overall Evaluation: We all have the general consensus that the Apple Ipod seems to be the best mp3 player out there. Test this Sony mp3 player and you'll have to rethink that saying. Search around and you will find audiophiles praising this Sony mp3 player as the best mp3 player out there. It produces excellent audio/sound quality, even at an incredibly affordable low price. Whenever I hold it, I feel like I was holding a cellphone that was missing number buttons. It's really tiny and lightweight. I love that it also comes with an internal FM tuner so I can listen to local radio stations. The signal strength is strong, so you hear very clear radio music. Actually, I think Sony must have got the design idea from their cellphones. Even the menu navigation feels like a cellphone; add a camera, a game menu, and the numbers dialpad and you really have a sleek cellphone! The battery life on this gadget is very good. I use it when I am vacuuming the floor (about a 1-1/2 hour chore) and then put it away afterwards without recharging. I did this for a number of times that I can't remember and the battery life is still running strong. I am amazed. My only gripe is that there is no memory stick expansion so I can add more music to play. Even though Sony has now come out with the same player with bigger capacity, I still hope there was a memory stick expansion slot (for financial and ecological reasons).

Strengths: 1) Very good sound quality,it stands out when you first listen the music! continue in the comments section..
Weaknesses:1)I should buy a bigger one.. 4G or 8G. well, 30G will be better if it's available. 2)I wish it could support other popular music lossless format like FLAC, APE, OOG.. 3) Screen could be bigger
Overall Evaluation: continue for Strengths: 2) loooong battery life: once I used it for 4 hours everyday for 5 days without recharging, it still had half of battery power left. amazing long battery. and I could finish 2 movies on it without recharging(well, my eyes will pain for sure..). 3) Video is clear and smooth for playing. 4) intuitive design, I didn't read the instruction. 5) FM tuner is big plus. 6) no any extra software to install.. 100% plug in and play. 7) speedy transfer. 500M in less than 1 min. 8) Very important! it feels solid and strong! not so delicate/fragile feelings as ipod video.. I had three ipods.. one photo, nano, video, but this sony mp3 player is my favorite. Carry Case recommendation: I bought "Sony CKH-NWS610 Hard Case" to protect mp3 player. hard case is a good investment to protect your favorite player. highly recommend! Other options: personally, I don't like the control layout in A serials[such as NWZA818BLK] (newer version of S serials.) the wheel on left is totally ipod-ish, and make control panel look awkward. I stick with Sony S serials' neat and clean layout, but bigger memory space. I lay my eyes on 8 G version.

Duration of ownership: 1 Months
Strengths: Sleek Form Factor, Sound Quality, Battery Life, Multiple Functions, User-Friendly Controls
Weaknesses:Screen size too small for my taste, Limited 2GB capacity - no memory stick expansion slot, Not so knowledgeable Customer Support
Overall Evaluation: I purchased this media player on clearance at Target for 75% off list price, so it was a steal. The unit is very sleek-looking and the sound quality is really good, especially when you use noise-cancelling headphones. It plays back MPEG-4 Video, MP3, AVC(H.264), AAC and has an FM tuner. The controls are pretty user-friendly and intuitive. However, the screen, at about 1-1/8" by 1.5" (technical specs say 1.8" High Resolution LCD), is too small for my taste. My unit came with some Kenny Chesney video clips and when I played them, I could barely see the video, much less the subtitles on one of the clips. This was when the display was in portrait/vertical mode. I switched to landscape/horizontal and the visual was a lot better but still too small for me. It would have been nice if the unit auto-detected the source (16:9 vs. 4:3) and auto-rotated without adjustment to maximize the screen view. The player comes with a CD to install Napster, Windows Media Player 11 and the Operations Guide. There is also an MP3 Conversion Tool, which doesn't seem installable, that allows you to convert ATRAC files to MP3. Unfortunately, it explicitly states it will not convert Sony MusicConnect SonicStage files, which I have. I did read a recent article that this service is shutting down, so Sony might provide another conversion tool later. I also encountered difficulties in installing Media Manager for Walkman from the Sony eSupport website. I kept getting the error "Microsoft Wmf 11 Redist for MTP Support. Requirements not met. Press OK to Exit Install." After contacting Customer Support at least 5 times via online chat and phone, nobody could help me install the utility. When I worked down the list, I tried re-installing Windows Media Player 11 from the MS website (I had previously installed this using the CD that came with the player). Microsoft required me to do a lot of updates on my Windows Media Center OS. So, when I had WMP 11 installed, I was able to install the Media Manager. Finally, the 2GB capacity is good for songs but not nearly enough for video, so it would have be nice to have an expansion slot. Overall, still a good value for the price I paid.

This player features a vibrant screen making it an attractive little player. This player is perfect for someone who wants to carry around some music selections but does not need to lug their entire file library.

Strengths: bright screen, great sound, easy to use
Weaknesses:bad earphone
Overall Evaluation: I have a new Zune 4G, other than the navigation control pad, I should say that this mp3 player is comparable to it, the sound is even better than Zune 4G with a pair of nice earphone. Size is right, design is good. you can use windows media player to sync the files with PC. Only thing I feel uncomfortable is that you cannot use it when charging.
