Overall Evaluation: i'm very upset with canon, i have had good experience with canon until now. but this camera is like a microsoft product , worse than useless. the best i can hope for is a soft focus, they claim macro focus to 1cm. all i can get is blur at 2 feet. there is virtually no image stabilization, color quality is poor, lag time indoors is so great if it moves, you lose. anything less than lithium batteries give maybe 10-20 pictures, and after testing used batteries , i found them to be at abut 80% of capacity. at this level they operate fine in my old camera. when i emailed canon, they intimated that i was the only complainant and i probably just didn't know how to use it and suggested that i send them the camera and they would send me an estimate for repairs-for a camera under warranty? i feel totally ripped off. one star is generous and i wold not recommend it at all.

Strengths: This Camera has everything I ever wanted.
Weaknesses:None
Overall Evaluation: I waited a long time to replace my old powershot A40 ...this Camera here has exactly all the features I was waiting for. I didn't take my old SLR's any more because of all the heavy equipment...the SX100 has almost all the features of an SLR in a compact light body. I'm impressed with the picture quality and even the movies come out awesome. I don't care about slow flash recharge time because I never use it much anyways and this camera is very good in low light (high ISO up to 1600 and image stabilizer produce almost always great natural light pictures). I don't miss the optical viewfinder either because...come on....who's using it anyways when you have such a big bright LCD Display. For my needs it is the perfect camera...higly recommended! And I got a very good price too...canon droped the price.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Manual settings alongside scene modes. Compact for an in-between camera. Looks good and performs well.
Weaknesses:Low light shooting is average. Some noise in pictures.
Overall Evaluation: I purchased this camera because I wanted the larger zoom and it has not disappointed me. The lowest zoom position is not as wide as I'd like but it does the job. There is occasionally some noise in the photographs. I like the way the camera looks and it is relatively compact for being in between a DSLR and a compact. It accepts SDHC cards and I like that it has both optical stabilization and face detection. I would recommend this camera to anyone who wants to "grow" in photography without having to spend a lot on a DSLR right away.

Strengths: Excellent zoom, great image quality, love the image stabilization, very powerful yet fairly easy to use. Overall a great value.
Weaknesses:Auto mode could use some work. Must use Canon software.
Overall Evaluation: I'm going to significantly revise my previous review: battery life is good, but the batteries it comes with suck. Once I put my 2650mah Duracells in there, it'll go for quite a while without even starting to display low battery. Image quality is great, though you may need to switch from auto mode to scene > indoor to get decent flash-free indoor pictures. Flash also does take 4-6 seconds to charge, which can be a bit of a problem. Other than that, it's am amazing camera, though it does take some getting used to. It's also rather large, especially with the lens out.One other word of warning: Unlike most digital cameras, this one does NOT act as a USB drive when connected to the computer. Without the Canon software installed, the computer generally won't even recognize that the camera is plugged in, and won't be able to download pictures from it. While the software does seem to support most Windows and Mac operating systems, anyone on Linux or any other unsupported OS will have to buy a separate card reader. I'm gonna have to wait a week or so before I can do anything with my pictures because of that.

Strengths: 10x optical zoom, excellent pictures
Weaknesses:Flash recycle time
Overall Evaluation: I just purchased this camera after owning a Canon Powershot A610. This is a great improvement. I love the 8.0 megapixels and I love the zoom lens. Camera is a little bulky but it is worth the extra weight. I also like the larger view screen as compared to the A610. All and all I am very happy I decided to upgrade and very happy I stayed with Canon. They make great cameras and I look forward to taking LOTS of photos with this one.
